why does it keep shutting off?

92 rs 305 tbi, auto. so when the car is driving enough it will shut off, usally at idle, but if its driven more itll start to shut off while in gear, you now how fun it is going 50 plus on a cruvy hilly road and the motor just shuts off? dont recommend it. ive checked/replaced a sh*t to of things, injectors, fuel filter, egr, map sensor, dist, coil pack, control module, i mean everythign short of a new motor. but i have discovered there is 1 thing that directly relates to when the car shuts off...outside temp. the hotter it is the sooner the car starts to shut off. when its below like 70 the car will run for long amounts of time, so long ive never experinced it shuting off. example last week temps in the 60s, no problem. few days ago temps in the high 70s, bout after 1 1/2 driving starts to cut off. in the 80s up can get bought 45 to an hour, but 90s and up cant even get half an hour!.

ive been reading and thinking, maybe IAT sensor? or fuel pump relay? and ideas would be greatly apprented.

Re: why does it keep shutting off?

umm ya its a TBI systems. lmao. but seriously no i havent, everyone i talk to keeps telling me it sounds eletrical. and considering i replaced the autow it a t-5 ik it not the trans doing it.

the only thing i havent replaced would be the computer and fuel pump wit the strainer on it.

i have replaced;

tbi rebuilt with new injectors and pressure regulator
fuel relays
fuel filter
control module
dist. wit plugs and wires
egr
o2 sensor
IAT sensor
PCV valve
oil sending unit
MAP sensor

theres probley more but ive dam near replaced any and everything that affects the motor except the computer and fuel pump.

it was brought to my attention tho that the computer is in a poor vented place so it could be overheating and causing the problem, but i have tested that idea yet seeing as how its so fun to get the dam thing let alone work around it. but its still doing it.

Re: why does it keep shutting off?

I would agree on computer location, but if its dying cause of heat, time to replace it.

Though why my new computer has a 12v computer fan installed onto the case for cooling and a long life.

Do you have tilt? Does your wheel wiggle around? It can F with the key switch when it wiggles and turn the car off. Use to happen to me till I put the tilt bolts back in with locktite, which GM was to cheap to use. 3 of mine where not even in anymore.

Unless you took the column apart, you didn't tighten the tilt bolts, steering wheel has to be removed and all the guts behind it to get to them.

I had plenty of room for a slim PC case fan.

Also got lucky and had a spare ECM case so I still got the good new one just incase I had to warranty it.

Re: why does it keep shutting off?

Mine has been doing the same thing for awhile also. I live in Las Vegas and it gets like 110 here. You can imagine how frequently it shuts off during the day.
