Ever have this happen to anybody here?
Today I was driving and I started to hear a knocking noise coming from the engine. On the way home, the engine just stopped dead. Not from gas or anything though. I told my uncle and he came and said it was probably a spun bearing. Great right? well...no.
I had to have it towed to my grandparents where I was planing on keeping it until I sold it. After I payed $125 for the tow, we decided to look at it. Tried to crank it and the belt tensioner would jump. We took off the belt, and checked the pulleys and they were all fine except one. The alternator. It was seized up bad.
Apparently the belt held on so well that it stopped the engine dead. I never heard of that happening.
Anybody here ever have that happen?
I'm so glad I don't have to sell her.

Fire it up with the belt off and make sure before deciding the alt was all it was
The engine should rip the belt in two or start bending pulleys before it stalls the engine

That is odd, never heard about anything like that happening before. That's what I would do, try to crank it with the alternator belt off.

We did, we took the belt off anditfired right up and ran with no problems. It was a fairly new belt, but still...that's amazing it didn't break or slip.

I would hold onto that belt until after the next rapture. There's no telling when an indestructible belt will come in handy. :-)

that same thing happened with an a/c compressor on a 89 grand prix. just dead. you would figure that an engine could overpower a rubber belt tho right?

Exactly! I guess they don't make belts like they used to.
