How to tell if you have a TBI or TPI
Re: How to tell if you have a TBI or TPI
how do you know it's not the "stock engine"?
did the seller tell you it's a "350" ?
get the castings off of the block and look up the numbers.
that's a tbi that you have there and it looks pretty stock to me

Re: How to tell if you have a TBI or TPI
thats not a 350 from my 27 yrs of past
350 has the A/C on the other side of the motor
*before i get "your wrongs" i know years mattered but to an extent they didn't. 350's had a/c on driver side from 83-97 unless you put on the modified aluminum surp. bracket
1987 - 350 carb'd in a 1985 IROC that had a 305tpi

ok then... i figured that was an easy one hence the names......THROTTLE BODY injection
TUNED PORT injection
only one looks like it has a throttle body like a carburetor and only one has "ports"
sorry for the misunderstanding

TPI has a throttle body. Ports can mean anything. You think runners look like "ports"?
That means nothing. All the belt systems will bolt up to all the heads and the block has nothing do with which side's cylinder head gets the air conditioner. From what I recall the A/C got moved over to the driver's side the last few years of thirdgen production for v8s, regardless of whether it was a 350 or not. Before then all the V8s were 305's. Im thinking 87-92ish the A/C is on the passenger side, but it may be 88-92.
Are you implying that GM has otherwise identical engines in the L98 and the LB9 and intentionally used different serpentine brackets, for no other reason, than to differentiate between the bore diameters in the block?
