Plugs, wires...suggestions

What spark plugs are best for a gen 1 5.7 sbc stock with head work and what wires should I use?
Running with MSD box and turbo with Edelbrock headers TES.
Whats the gap should I set on the plugs?
Thanks

Re: Plugs, wires...suggestions

Plugs don't matter. They're all the same except for fluxtuation in spark temp.

Gap .035

Wires really dont matter either, but I guess I fell for gimmicks too and went with msd 8.5mm ($80.00 set), so that ones on you also.

I have TES headers as well and found no spark plug wire set fit properly without burning through a bunch of them. You no longer can go by a box for a third gen. I had to buy the non terminated set and cut and crimp my own. I purchased morroso under header wire looms, ran all the wires down the back of the block behind the distributor then down the side of the block under the headers to each plug. its a very neat installation but a bear to do. You also need to cut a spark plug socket in half and make sure you have the socket that a 5/8 wrench will fit. Those headers really make the job a chore. Most of the plug and wire change were done underneath the car.

As for plugs, I've always used and will continue to use NGK. My wires are Taylor Spiral Pro. I'm on my second set and have been very happy with them.

I just realized you said 1st Gen. If thats the case you probably wont run into these issues. But I still recommend Taylor and NGK

Go with summit 8.5 high energy wires, they work great and only cost like $40 bucks.

i went with the pretty blue 8mm ones

for plugs, I use what's on sale at adv auto

but, if you want to spend money then buy MSD wires and iridium plugs. You can at least tell people what you have. it won't make any difference at all but you'll sound cool tossing out names vs saving money.

nope

there are junk wires out there but paying through the nose does not always mean you are getting "the best"

if you have a high compression, high rev'ing engine for racing then you want a high quality cable.

If you have a street vehicle spending most of it's time under 4k rpms then the Summit and Jegs brand wires work just fine. They also work well for racing too
