need some help, give me all ya got
just got a new Camaro (well new to me) i was told has a 350 4 bolt, with and victor jr. intake 650 or 750 holly double pumper, rocker roller rocker arms, and double hump heads, all this i can see, and sounds like it has a sizable cam , not sure what size........ Runs great, and strong. But when i got it, i was told the guy that rebuilt it was given the wrong bearings, and it loses oil pressure after a few minutes of running and has a slight knock..... I’m planning on rebuilding the lower part of the motor.....but figured I’ll put a scat crank in, since ill have it tore apart, im not sure if the crank is stock, may have a nicer crankin it already, haven’t got it tore apart yet,....is this a good idea? Do i have to swap out rods, pistons? What size scat crank would you suggest, how do i find the size of my rods? and oh im on a budget. Any and all help is appreciated, thanks

I'd start by hooking up an AutoMeter oil pressure gauge, then run the engine until it gets up to temp, while watching the gauge. If it drops below 20, then try some straight 30W. Not 10W30, but 30W, then repeat. If it still drops below 20, then I'd start investigating the bearings.

thanks, already got striaght 30w in it..........when it was over full (when i got it) by about a quart i did not hear any noise but when i got the 30 in it, it still droped below 20 and when it got warm i heard a knock so pretty sure its the bearings........wondering if i should go with a better crank since ill have it tore apart and whats all involved with puting a scat crank, one just a little better than stock nothing to nuts. how do i find the size of my rods to match the new crank. or is it worth the money. thanks

ok just got the motor out today if ya remeber when i had the motor running id have good oil presure 30-40 psi, then it would slowly die off, over 4 or 5 minutes down to 5 or 10 psi, then come back up when id give alittle gas and die right back down.........well i pulled the pan off today and found the oil pick up screen half full of blue gasket material, do ya think this is the only problem?.....ill check main bearings with plastigauge since iv got the motor out but is there anything eles i should check?.........i was thinking about putting a scat crank in aswell, do i have to change anything eles when doing this? like the rods, pistons, or is it just pulling out old crank and putting new crank in? thanks

No point in the scat crank if your stock crank isn't damaged.
You can't do a stroker without changing the rods or pistons, and if you choose pistons, then you have to do some clearancing for the stock-style rod bolts.
Putting a stock-stroke Scat crank in is also pointless, you gain nothing for all that extra expense. If your current crank is hurt, you can get re-ground stockers cheaper than the cheapest Scat.
