Car starting problems.
I started a thread under the TBI section, but I think now it more a general tech question.

Ok, so miraculously the fuel pump is now operating normally. Hmm... My only problem now is that as the fuel is being injected the car wont start. It seems lean instead. It will start with starter fluid, and I can keep it running by fluttering the throttle. But it wont idle and as soon as I let off the throttle it will die. The fuel pump is supposedly new, I am considering the fuel filter. I am going to check fuel pressure one of these days when I can afford to by a tester. Any other ideas on what might be wrong?

Check the FP first, and then we can talk about "ideas".
I'm guessing "supposedly new" on the fuel pump might not count for much... could be like the Cheeep I put one in not too long ago, one of my kids', it's a Bland Cherokee, wherein the 1st one had about 20 psi where it needs 45ish; then the 2nd one gave about 65; so it turns out the port the return line plugs into was blocked; so I drilled it out and then it at least had the right pressure. Took 3 gas tank removals before it worked, then a 4th because the gasket seal thing got fornicated somehow and it leaked gas mercilessly if it had more than about half a tank in it and I had to go get a new that. Then it was finally OK. You probably have a similar deal going on. Moral of the story: "supposedly new" does not necessarily translate directly to "count on it working right".

Re: Car starting problems.
"Supposedly new" means that the previous owner said he replaced it, but he neglected to tell me about the dead cylinder in the engine or the worn synchros in the transmission, so I don't know what to believe. I haven't ever replaced the fuel pump before, and it seems daunting. I have been wrong with diagnoses before, and was just looking for input in case someone else had a similar issue. But I do appreciate your response.

I also am pulling a code 24 on my ecm. I checked the fuel pressure and I am getting 10 to 15psi.

Good suggestion, as I messed with them changing out the harness.

Re: Car starting problems.
So I have done some research and I am unable to find any answers to my problems.
I have been having problems with this car for years, and I have been trying to get this project running.
I have some updates. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter, and it did not fix anything. So I blocked off the fuel return line and that improved the performance. I still had to use carb cleaner to start it, but it idled and at 3500 rpms. So I checked all the fuel lines and they are all kink free all the way back to the fuel pump. So I am not getting enough fuel to supply the engine. How do I fix this? Or am I missing something else. The engine harness was totally replaced, and I have two computers that I am using and they both do the same thing.
Could it be a sensor somewhere? I cannot think of anything else that I am missing. I really could use some help.
