I have a 82 TA with 305 with quadrajet carb,
I'm having a weird problem, the engine has always run a little hot but runs hotter now since i lost the bottom shroud portion around 210 degrees .
The issue is when I'm driving on the highway for about a hour steady it will kinda hesitate and I have to give it more gas and the exact same time the check engine light will come on but once I park for awhile the light goes off and everything runs right.
Any idea what is wrong?

the shroud is there to pull the air through the radiator....find a lower piece and put it on problem solved....

I have tried looking everywhere for a new shroud, can't find any.
I really need a upper too mine is rough.

 

Assume you are referring to the shroud around the fan, not the air dam. The fan needs to be fully shrouded to make sure all the air flow is pulled thru the rad, rather than in from the sides behind the rad, or allowing hot air to recirculate back thru the front of the rad.

Getting too hot will result in all kinds of narky behaviour, especially with a carb.

you would think since 82 to 92 there would be one in a junk yard for firebirds or camaros but no luck around here.

 

today noticed a buzzing sound coming from behind the dash around the choke light with the engine off and key not even in, later it wouldn't start,dead battery. I'm thinking alternator time.

 

today I changed the alternator and everything is fine now, no buzzing and engine runs good, didn't even try the code trick. I'll see how it goes awhile and maybe check it anyway.
