Re: Took emissions test without smog pump today...

Hey, I actually PERSONALLY know somebody that was sky-diving one day, and his parachute failed to open, and he survived. I guess that means you don't need all that clutter and whatever on your back when you jump out of planes?

You got LUCKY. LUCKY is different from GOOD.

Don't hack your car, you'll be wanting that stuff next inspection time.

Re: Took emissions test without smog pump today...

That's an unfair and ridiculous comparison. Deleting. The air pump makes sense.

Re: Took emissions test without smog pump today...

How so?

d00d does ... something .... without .... the parts that are supposed to be needed. Survives. How is the one situation different from the other? I know I'm not the brightest bulb on the string, but if you can explain how luck in the one case is different from luck in the other,I'm all ears. And, don't forget to let me in on the way, how sometimes you can get lucky, but if you DEPEND on luck exclusively you LOSE eventually, is somehow "different" in the 2 situations.

Like I said, I'm real DUMB, but if I'm wrong somehow about this "luck" thing (as I could easily be), I'm ready to learn from you all about how you can command "luck" to always be with me so that, for ME too, all those extra parts that don't do anything that the factory stupidly put on there at ... how much cost? .... for no reason whatsoever, are totally surplus. I'd like to know cool stuff like that so help me understand.

Glad he survived. Doesn't make me eager to jump out of an airplane without a parchute just yet.

Re: Took emissions test without smog pump today...

Depends on what your local smog inspection is. If it's like it is here, they check idle and cruise emissions at operating temp. Would still pass emissions if the smog pump was just laying in the trunk.

No, not gambling with anybody's life; just, whether you get to drive your car or not.

If it worked for you (hilljack HACK), great.

Just don't come around here telling people that it's a good idea.

Now please, go away.

Re: Took emissions test without smog pump today...

Suggest it is time to take your medication.

I'd compare deleting parachute to brakes, not the inconsequential air pump.

Shout louder and use worse insults.

I'm sure that makes your logic more sound.

Children always seem to think that way.

Re: ----

What would you like a mod for?

We've got one guy that got lucky and gets to drive his car a bit longer even though he violated Federal law (but he didn't get caught), and one guy that lives on the other side of the planet and has not the vaguest clue what goes on on THIS side of it. Both of them seem to be advancing the mistaken idea that there's some kind of benefit to BREAKING THE LAW.

And we (well,,, .... YOU) need a mod for THAT? Seems like it's pretty easy to see what's going on here.

Re: ----

I'm pretty sure the smog pump doesnt do a thing except at startup. Once its warmed up, the diverter valve just vents the air. A lot of states do visual checks rather than a sniffer; you'd fail one of those.

Hooker 2055s have the air tubes, and are some of the best made for these cars.

Re: ----

I can see both sides here. Musclecarfan, you are trying to tell people that the air pump is not a defining factor on whether or not you pass your emissions test, as a well taken care of car will be driving pretty clean regardless. What sofakingdom is saying, regardless of how crass or abrasive it may be coming across is, that you are removing a part that the manufacturer decided needed to be there, and since we are not automotive engineers, then maybe we shouldn't just go changing their designs. Not to mention like he said, it's a federal law you're breaking. If you look at all of the help he's given people on here, you'll notice that he isn't prone to bs, just being a bit abrasive. Don't do hack jobs, don't get flamed. And definitely don't tell others that they can also just go ahead and remove stuff that they don't even understand most of the time.

Edit: Seems that was satisfactorily resolved.

I just noticed this... the "Supreme Member" "Sofakingdom" in all his self righteous glory has posted 15,135 times in the last 8.75 years, which comes out to 4.75 posts a day. Really fifteen thousand posts? I would suggest this guy needs to get a hobby like working on his car? I think supreme member should be changed to "Uber Nerd".

I think your mistaken about Sofa , and here's my take on things ;

Sofa does know these cars very well and freely shares his knowledge . This is a good thing . Now , he's been sharing this knowledge for long enough here that when someone suggests something that he thinks is not right , he calls out what he sees as misinformation . The almost universal reaction (was guilty of it myself here once) is to get angry with him and lash back at him as well as his info . Sure , he appears sarcastic at times , who wouldn't , when folks are attacking the messenger as much as they do to him ? The Man is dead right about not going and lopping anything off without the appropriate compensation being made to the rest of the system to accomodate for the absence of the removed part , in this case the air pump .

Says the guy who spent the time to find a 3 year old post and drag it back up just to add his pointless comment, after looking up info on Sofa and how much he posts........ Cmon man, grow up. This kind of stuff is not needed on here.
