Re: Sensor Pass Side Below Headers

Sounds like the knock sensor, if you're talking about being screwed into the coolant drain hole on that side, exactly halfway down the side of the block and about 1" above the oil pan rail.

I dont remember if it is right above the oil pan rail or not. I'll have to take a look later if it ever stops raining.

Re: Sensor Pass Side Below Headers

there are 2 items on the right side of the block

I'm not sure with the 87's but on the 89

one is the fan switch

the other is the knock sensor

The fan switch and knock sensor are both on the right side of the engine, but the fan switch is in the head.

It's the knock sensor, it's right above the pan rail:

Thanks for all the reply's. I havent had a chance to get it out yet, or even look at it again due to the rain. Tomorrow i think might be clear enough to try.

Re: Sensor Pass Side Below Headers

That thing screws in the coolant drain. With a bit of luck there's enough deposits in the block to plug it. If not, it will leak out all coolant if you take it out. If it doesn't leak, don't poke in the hole with a screwdriver, then it will leak guaranteed.

Thanks
"above starter"
"towards firewall"
"tight spot in block"
To me that describes the fan switch more than the knock sensor, but neither are in a "tight spot" on my motor, but if it's below headers and "in" the block, then it's definitely the knock sensor.
Let us know which one it is.

Re: Sensor Pass Side Below Headers

The knock sensor is in a tight spot with the engine in the frame, hard to reach with the crossmember obstructing it.

Re: Sensor Pass Side Below Headers

That's what confuses me because the cross member would be away from the firewall.
I would describe it's location by, " in front of starter over cross member."

It was the Fan switch sensor that was broken. I did not get a chance to get pics.
