Intermitent Power loss

I don't think I can get a solution here, especially since I'm NOT a mechanic, but I'll throw it out there and see what turns up.
I've been to 3 different mechanics, of which two are 'gold' certified by CAL standards and neither can fix it. They say it's my fuel injectors, they foul up. One of them was able to make it run like new, full power, then within 30 days, down the dumps again. I'm almost embarrassed to drive it, it sounds like a VW bug. But the kicker is that some times it gets it's power back and most of the time it surprises me cause it gets it back on take off and it takes off like bat out of hell. So, I don't think it's the fuel injectors fouling up, since I've spent $$$ on cleaning liquid and the such. It wouldn't come and go.
Thanks for being a shoulder to cry on!

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it, tape it to windshield, drive til it acts up. Note the pressure, I'm assuming it has got a tpi engine, 36 psi or more is good.
Ohm all the injectors, hot & cold. 1 bad one can shut down an entire bank.
Make sure the tune up parts are good, maybe the spark is jumping to ground.

If the injectors check out, check your distributor. My 92 z28 was doing something similar and it ended up being the distributor. Replaced it and it ran like a top.

When you say this, you mean you literally replaced the ENTIRE distributor, or just the cap or coil or something? Because now mines acting up a bit too, im wondering if this is the problem.

(while cold it seems to run strong, but once warmed up about half way if I romp on it it just bogs down real bad, no power at all. Id go faster if i just barely pushed the pedal down. It seems to pulsate, itll kinda jerk around like its getting some power then losing it, back and forth until i let off. The tach doesnt work, so im not sure what rpm it starts doing it at. I have not had time to ohm out the inj.'s, I will try tommarow. Can anyone tell me what they are supposed to be at warm/cold? the check engine light is on, and i cant find anywhere that can read it. I have heard of the paperclip trick but dont know how to do it. Other than this problem it seems to be a great car, turns lots of heads and all my friends are jealous... lol)

Ignition module. That's where I'd start, take it to some place and get it tested. They can do really screwy stuff when they're going out. I wouldn't just buy one but I'd definitely test that out. Besides that get an ohm meter and measure the coil's resistance. A Chiltons will tell you how to.

Re: Intermitent Power loss

Let me correct myself a bit. The intermittent thing is NOT the loss of power, rather the return of the full power. And that is VERY VERY sporadic return of power. In fact I've only seen it come back very briefly 3 times in the last month. I don't have access to the Chilton book, anyone knows where I can get some of that tech info, ie the injector resistance value hot/cold? or the coil resistance? I don't get it, you people either know a whole lot more then three local garages or they all chk'd all that already. I'd love to find this problem.
Again, thank you all for your info so far, I'm grateful, I will definitely check all that out!

Re: Intermitent Power loss

Black88Z - I replaced the whole distributor. I had it lucky though because I had just rebuilt the motor and replaced all the sensors and injectors so I had already eliminated a lot of things just by that. My car would run fine at times, and then for no apparent reason would lose power, kinda pulsing and jerking, then it would come back and be fine. Didn't happen only when cold or only when hot, just a real random thing. So knowing everything was new (and trusting it all was working properly), I replaced the entire distributor. The unit I bought was a complete unit, so all I did was r & r it and that ended the problem completely. It had about 142K miles on it at the time.

Re: Intermitent Power loss

Black88Z- To read your codes you can do the paperclip method or go by your local Autozone and pick up a key. They gave me mine. Google reading OBDI codes and you will find lots of good info. I did that and found a video on Youtube that showed me how to do it. Get a pen and paper and write down your codes and then you can probably find out what they mean here on this site or online too.

Re: Intermitent Power loss

Well since the writing of this post, I've had brief return of my power almost on a daily bases, couple times VERY surprisingly, but I enjoy every second of it! It's good to feel the full power of my baby!
Shopped for a fuel gauge, I'll get it some time after Christmas!
I assume the injectors have been thoroughly tested by the 3 garages I've been to for this and over $1000 dollars so far w/o results, no more!

My engine light is always on, it goes out when I get my power back, then back on again when I lose it.

Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year! Thank you all for all your help!
A quick foot note.
