Re: oil leak

sounds like the seal that goes around the oil filter when it screws in.

Re: oil leak

Theres a gasket that goes between the filter housing & the block, its a common gasket. It might look like this one.

Re: oil leak

Verify that you're using the correct filter--don't ask me why I'm suggesting that .

that cracks me up and brings back memories of a neighbor who used a spare oil filter from his previous car on his new truck, who had a similar rather messy smokey problem when the wrong filter failed to seal correctly

Re: oil leak

You have to remove the large center bolt.
I haven't been under one those v6 cars in awhile, you might have to remove the engine mount.
Can you take a picture?

Re: oil leak

Hi, i have the same problem with a 86 camaro 2.8 v6. I have no idea on how to remove the oil filter housing. Do i remove the bolt that the filter goes on? Or is it on the outside by the sensors ?

Re: oil leak

Here's a picture to show you, it the large bolt that goes through the housing. You might have to loosen the engine mount bracket.

Thank you so much! That helps a buch One more thing if you don't mind. Would you happen to know if there is any specific torque specs for when i'm putting the bolt back on?

That's a easy fix on the 2.8, really shocked he would charge you that much.
