TPS bolt help

Hey, i need to know the dimensions of the TPS hold down bolts. Somehow I lost the bottom one, and while tightening the top one it broke. So i now have no bolts to hold it, and nothing to go off of.

I dont care if its the star (torx) or not, id rather it be just a phillips or flathead to be honest, but i really dont care one way or another, as long as im able to get the two bolts so i can drive my car im fine.

Also, any places that carry it (if you know any) would also help. I was thinking of checking home depo first.

Thanks

Re: TPS bolt help

THey're metric, either 4mm or 5mm, can't recall which. I seem to recall having to go to a real screw store to get them last time I needed some, the #20 & #48 type of stores don't (or at least didn't then) have it.

Re: TPS bolt help

Hey, thanks for the help. I was able to find the broken stud and use it for reference, but when i went to home depot (the real hardware store is closed until jan 4th for the holidays,of course) i got 5mm's, bc the broken stud fit into the 5mm hole on the size chart, it didnt fit on the throttle body's hole when i tried to put it in. I went back and got 4's, and they fit, but it never tightens down, it just keeps spinning. Im very frustrated to be honest, i hate when stupid things like this happen. And im having to borrow my fathers car to get anywhere, and i really miss my camaro.

Does anyone know where i can get the right size bolts? I just want to be done with this already, i dont feel like messing around with it any longer.

Thanks again

Re: TPS bolt help

You couldn't find it because they used a really odd combination of diameter/pitch. The 4mm has the correct pitch but it needs to be 5mm but they have the wrong pitch. I googled and found some in the UK but it wasn't worth the effort. I never did find a convenient supplier so drilled tapped for an easily available screw. BTW the TB butterfly screws were an odd combo too.

Aren't they just #10-32.

Re: TPS bolt help

No; they are 5mm fine pitch (not the more common, coarse, pitch) whatever # that is

Might be possible to drill & tap for 10-32 but IMO not the best idea.

Re: TPS bolt help

It's been a long time but when I searched I think I found that size/pitch was also used on the cover of Ryobi weed whackers so I looked for Ryobi parts suppliers that would sell just the screws but it was fruitless. Let us know if you find a source.

Re: TPS bolt help

I took it off and im just gonna have it tapped out, one of the bolts broke off inside anyways. I tried 4mm and 5mm and neither worked, 5 was too big and 4 too small. The thread pattern is different on the 10-32's.

What would be the best size to tap it to? 5mm?

Also, isnt there supposed to be a gasket between the throttle body and the plenum? When i took it off I was surprised there was no gasket..

Re: TPS bolt help

Go with an easily available bolt diam/pitch and TB should absolutely have a gasket.

Re: TPS bolt help

Ok, thanks. I put it all back together and took it out for a test drive and it runs great again. Thanks for all the help everyone. However i do have one last question. When i was taking the TB off the little wire that holds the throttle cable to the TB broke, its still on there but its much shorter now. I was able to put it back on but driving with it like that makes me a little nervous, like it could brake any moment and id be stuck on the side of the road. I put the picture below, but in case it doesnt show up i also pasted a link to the picture too. It doesnt look right, but it runs and drives ok and the shift points seem to still be the same too. I'd just like to fix it the RIGHT way. My question is, what would i use to replace that wire/small cable thing? Its small like a paperclip, but im not sure a paperclip would hold it well enough, so i figured i would ask you guys for your opinion on it.

Thanks again.

Re: TPS bolt help

Looks like, time for a new cable.

That wire is just an alternate-ethnic-engineering feat of some kind, not what "belongs".
