NEW problem no spark

no.8 plug i took it off while it was running and it did not make a diff. in the sound of the engine. so I got a new plug since the old one was gassed. i replaced plug and still no fire. unplugged from the dizzy cap no change and i touched the dizzy prong and got a jolt. any ideas? ill try to check the cap in the dark tomorrow.

You just recently posted that you "cleaned up the wires", so I would say that you damaged that one, possibly by pulling on it.
Swap that plug wire and re-test.

Re: NEW problem no spark

ok this is what im going to do:
1st: fire it up in the dark tomorrow and watch ffor spark at wire and plug and
2nd: do the same thing for the dizzy.
3rd: do same undder slight load
4th: pull wire and stick plug into wire and ffire up while laying on engine (to see if spark is going thru wire and all the way thru plug and what color the spark is)
5th: replace the wire, ddizzy cap, rotor, as neccessary
6th: compression test
and last but not least if the compression means the motor is bad then bye bye thirgens IF i can not find a reasonably priced 350 quickly.

thanx man i'll let all of you know tomorrow

Re: NEW problem no spark

Or you could just fire it up in the dark and quickly see where that spark is going.

Something tells me that no matter what you're not going to be with this car much longer.

Re: NEW problem no spark

I'm with 305, everything you say your going to do doesn't seem necessary. If you just cleaned the spark plug wires, and now mysteriously one of them doesn't work. I'd say you damaged that spark plug wire.

Simple test is remove another spark plug wire completely, hook it up to the post that you weren't getting spark on, then throw a plug in the other end of the spark plug wire. Ground the base of the plug by laying it against a piece of grounded metal, like the chassis. Try starting the engine and see if your getting spark, if your not then you can go from there. However if you do get spark, then just replace the spark plug wire.

If you still have no spark with that plug wire, try replacing the spark plug. If at this point you still don't get spark. I'd pull the distrib cap, and take a look at the post you were having no spark on, see if its worn. If so replace the distrib cap/rotor, if you still have a problem past that point, throw up another post telling your problems. I'd appreciate it if you'd reply if you fix the problem, stating how, too many people don't reply on how they fixed their problem, and its a pain when someone else is having that same problem. Thanks.

Re: NEW problem no spark

well here is what i've got: i took the wire loose and plugged in another plug and grounded it well we have spark and i did not see any spark at dizzy or anywhere else in the wire. so what i did was changed no. 8 and no.6 wires and plugged in my spare plug and we have spark. I plugged the wires back to the car and it idled beautifully. no motor tremble, no skip, nothing that indicate anything bad. but still removed the no.8 wire off the dizzy and no change in engine sound.

I spoke with a guy and explained that i put 93 octane (full tank) and he said that it might not be burning the high octane completely makiing it seem like it's not burning all of the gas. So i'm going to put a tank of 87 octane in and see what it does. the guy said "its running waaayyy too smooth for it to be missing" that maybe its having a hard time burning the 93 stuff. i have no idea but its worth a try so i'm going to try that.

Re: NEW problem no spark

took plug out and turned the motor over and took the plug out and dried it out put it back in and voila smooth as a baby bottom. until i throttled it and then right back to what it was doing. unplugged the est and adjusted the timing and then voila smooth as a baby bottom. until i throttled it and the right back to what it was doing. i think that the valve is dumping too much gas~or the compression isn't good.

I'm going to put some 87 in the tank and take it down the road and see what happens. it runs very well just got a small miss and no change when the no.8 wire is taken off while running.please give me some ideas. oh once again plug is still gassed.
if it does not do any better then off to my father's friend shop for a compression test.

Re: NEW problem no spark

Wondering how you "dried" the plug ?

The proper way is to cook the ceramic tip that goes into the chamber with a Propane torch for about 2 minutes.

If it keeps fuel fouling after that and you've already tried a fresh plug, then next thing I'd check is for a leaking injector for that cylinder.

edit: Well, this assumes that you've determined the plug wire is good all the way to the plug.
