A/C, keep it or remove it?

So I've got my interior squared away, as well as a couple thousand dollars in suspension and brakes. Now I'm to the engine. I'm going to pull the stock L-98 out and repaint the engine compartment and run the wiring harness nice and neat. I also plan on adding some polished aluminum parts and will be cleaning up the corvette L-98 I picked up.

I'm just up in the air about the A/C. My car is not a daily driver but its gets driven quite a bit on pretty days. So having air is nice, although it would look cleaner under the hood without it. If I take it out I will keep everything in case I want to put it back in. My main thing is I hate all that clutter on the passenger side with the A/C compressor and lines. Thoughts on this? Who has taken their A/C out and regretted it? Who doesn't regret it?

I just need some opinions to help me make up my mind on this.

I disconnected mine, have driven the car twice, and already want it back. It's getting reconnected as soon as I build new lines for it

Re: A/C, keep it or remove it?

Well on mine even on the original motor, my a.c never worked. So after the motor swap I just gutted the entire setup for a.c and I love the extra room I have to do what I want with it. Plus if you have t-tops/convertible who needs a.c. Just a waste of 3-4 HP. On those brutal summer days, I ride the motorcycle. Moral of the story: get a motorcycle

I would keep it in. unless your a track car or you really really need the extra room. and don't really drive it in traffic or streets much.

Re: A/C, keep it or remove it?

I have to agree; keep it.

My 81 TA had no ac/ and in the summer (NC) it was brutal. The PO cut out the lines and got rid of everything, leaving me with a very screwed up mess.

As previously mentioned, unless you want it to be a track car, or if you live somewhere that it doesnt usually get very hot and you feel that T-Tops and the windows down will suffice, sure. Take the A/C out. But I for one think youll regret it shortly afterwards.

Just not worth the hassle and loss of ac.

Re: A/C, keep it or remove it?

I've posted basically the same in the Midwest forum as I'm basically in the same situation. Seems like it would be convenient to me to get rid of it and not have the clutter, plus I drove mine all last summer without the AC functioning and the HVAC flap stuck in the heat setting anyway. As I noted, my concern is how to defog the windows when it's raining as I had that trouble last summer.

Re: A/C, keep it or remove it?

I've had my Camaro since 05' and I've used ac the first summer. After that I never realty used it even in 90* days. Now I pulled my ac stuff out and I do not miss it. But if the ac worked better I might have kept it.

Keep the AC. I was finally able to reinstall everything on my car and I love it. Too blame hot without it. It doesnt take up that much room. I dont see why that is ever a good enough reason to remove it. Seriously, what does it block? What does it make it harder to do with it there?

Keep it.

Re: A/C, keep it or remove it?

My z28 has t-tops and of course when I bought it the A/C components had already been removed so I am bias of hard top vs. t-top!!! But I agree with most T-top owners that's the main reason they're there to remove and not need the A/C the t-tops are better at circulating the air anyways!!!!

Not when you are sitting in traffic or at a long stoplight.

I love T-tops too, but they arent just as good. What about a hot day during a rain? I dont want windows down or t-tops off and it gets awful muggy without A/C.

Rainy hot humid days are the only uncomfortable days when it comes to t-tops I can agree!!!

Re: A/C, keep it or remove it?

I live in East Tennessee so it get's pretty darn hot in the summer, humid as well. So I think I've made up my mind and have decided to keep it. Especially since the car only gets driven on nice, sunny days. And I don't think my girl would appreciate riding around in a steaming hot car. lol... I'd just hate to remove everything then regret it. And I only take the tops out when cruising through the mountains anyway. Up there you don't need A/C, but down in the valley it gets a little too toasty.

do a search.

then when you are stumped, start your own thread and give a ton of details on what you have, and what you are wondering.

Perhaps because I'm an old fart, I enjoy creature comforts far too much to go without AC, especially in Kansas heat. Keep it.

Re: A/C, keep it or remove it?

For a driver, def keep it. I've been meaning to rebuild mine for years now, but other stuff always seems to keep coming up first. Some po made off with my compressor and lines.

Really need it in the Sydney heat here too, but have done with just windows for years. At least summer seems to have been a no-start this year... alas my fart is getter older too...
