It's above the rear axle. You need to loosen and pretty much remove the muffler and exhaust from the catalytic converter back, drop the axle by detaching the shocks from the axle. Then you can wrestle the tank out. Before you go there, be sure you have power and ground at the pump. There is a connector just above and in front of the tank that carries the power and ground to the pump. Test there. Note that the pump only runs for two seconds when the key is turned on, then only comes back on when the engine is cranking. If you have power at the pump and no pressure at the test port, which is on the passenger side fuel rail of the TPI engine, listen at the filler neck with the cap off for the hum of the pump. Also, before dropping the tank, be sure the fuel filter which in front of the left rear tire, is not clogged.

In exactly the same spot as every single 1982-2002 Camaro & Firebird. Behind the gas door, all the way (mostly) across, above the rear axle. All it takes is for you to actually look. Follow the tube from the gas door across & you'll find it. If you can't? Sorry, but you shouldn't be working on it.

Not an uncommon thing & something the factory shoulda done in the first place since that are is ZERO to do with the structural integrity of the body/chassis and make pump access much easier if the lines have disconnects there.

Re: Where is the fuel tank for a 92 bird?
Lol. I guess I've made my feelings about fuel pump hatches well enough known on this forum. Honestly though, Blackened Bird makes a good point. I get pretty tired of pulling fuel tanks on cars day after day at work. The best car designers are thoughtful enough to provide a means by which to access the pump without dropping the tank. I suppose if it is correctly done, it is not a bad modification to make. The trouble I have with the ones Ive seen done is that they appear to have been done in a hurry with little thought to the finished result. If someone were to make a clean opening and finish it with a nicely made cover that actually sealed to the floor pan and made clean safe connections at the fuel lines, I guess I really couldn't find fault with that.
As for myself, since my engine is a beast anyway and I got tired of the intank pump sucking air on a hard corner with less than a 1/3 tank of fuel, I just put an AN 12 pick up line into the tank, after pulling the tank from the car. Then I plumbed in a Holley Blue Race pump drawing from the tank and feeding a reservoir at the front of the car through AN10 line. An Aeromotive 70GPH pump draws from the reservoir to feed the rails. So now I have no intank pump to worry about and I can corner as hard as I want with no fuel dropout.

Re: Where is the fuel tank for a 92 bird?
Woah! Now slow down there a minute speedy. I thought you were going to verify power and ground at the pump before you swapped it. It is time now to start diagnosis before any more good parts get swapped out. Do you have a 12V test light? They're cheap to buy and you can use it to verify power and ground at the pump then work your way back to the relay and on to the ECM/FP fuse. It is fair to jumper the relay to test the power and ground circuits to the pump but be careful not to short something out.

Re: Where is the fuel tank for a 92 bird?
the fuel pump relay is on the firewall on the driver's side, just above the brake booster, there should be two big relays there, i can't remember which one is the radiator fan and which is the fuel pump
