Hello all. I have a 1991 Trans AM GTA with a 305 TPI and the car will just crank and will not start. The car has spark and fuel pressure but the injectors are just not opening. Have been stumped on this for a little while now and looking for some help.

 

My first question is, do you have any codes stored in the ecm? My second question is, how did you determine the injectors aren't opening?

 

Not sure of the codes and I do not recall them telling me about any codes and for the injectors it will start on starting fluid and we did check the fuel pressure and it is correct. Also we replaced the computer and it fired right up but then died again almost immediatley and just goes back to cranking again.

 

does it continue to run after you start it with the starter fluid? You could have a failed coolant temperature sensor. It gives a false reading which changes the amount of fuel the ecm thinks the motor needs and presto! No start

 

Forgot to mention in my last post that if it continues to run with starter fluid being sprayed in it, then the fuel pump probably gave up the ghost

 

Another possible thing since it's a 91, is VATS

 

VATS won't allow crank. How did you test for fuel? If the car doesn't get spark then it won't fire the injectors... but you're getting spark? Check the injector fuse(s) in the fuse panel?

 

Did you check the "ECM1" & "ECM2" fuses? (the ones that supply power to the injectors)

 

That's a good point Sofa. The thing that doesn't make much sense is why it started after changing the computer, and now it's back to square one
