82 pontiac firebird. i get no power to the starter and the ignition key doesnt feel like it is turning to the start position... it has a brake pedal shifter mechanism connected to the steering column.. anyone got any wire diagrams or anything that could help me out??? thanks..

 

Doesn't sound like the type of problem that a wiring diagram would be helpful for.

Fix the mechanical breakage first.

 

well i worked on the car all day today again.. i found that the yellow wire from the ignition switch goes to the neutral safety switch. it doesnt power up when the key is turned to the start position. i put power to the purple wire on the neutral safety switch and the engine starts. Now i need to adjust the ignition switch i guess. anyone know how to adjust the ignition switch so that the rod pushes enough to the start position??

 

Pretty straightforward... loosen the 2 screws that hold it to the column, slide it up or down along the column as required, tighten back down.

 

thanks guys i got the ignition switch figured out.. i did just that, lowered the column and adjusted the switch.. but i still have a brake interlock problem that i cant figure out. key wont come out sometimes and shifter wont come out of park. for now i have the interlock cable disconnected but cant get the key out.. anyone know how the interlock wires do or how it works??
