292XFI cam and spring selection

I am reading some issues around the 26918 springs with this cam.
well, my 292xfi cam came with 26986 springs, this is even less pressure than the com cam's suggest.

I have in my storage 101 lbs seat/332 lbs open (zz4 spring) and this hard one 140 seat/350 open that came with my heads.

should I go wit the springs 140/350, and will my compcams 850 lifters handle this spring pressure if I max at 7000 rpm?

Isky 295d's should work for you. I have them for my 280fxi

Re: 292XFI cam and spring selection

the xfi cams tend to be hard on springs, even on the beehives that comp recommends

ok, it is not the isky 295d I have cause mine is a double spring, but that don't matter much. It is same spec on the isky 295d.

when you say hard on springs, do they brake the spring?

Re: 292XFI cam and spring selection

wear them out fast, valve float issues with certain springs as well. Best to have a stronger spring then a bare minimum one. I had AFR upgrade my springs to the 8019 to control my 280xfi

Re: 292XFI cam and spring selection

I am advised to use some harder springs on this cam. so now after running the motor in, I think I might changing my springs to this COMPETITION CAMS 26055

so to you old engine builders/experts, is this recommended?
to change from 26918 to 26055
125 seat load and 367 open load change to
150 seat load and 410 open load

I was advised to go about 400 open load to avoid valve float.
I use the 850 lifters this should be the same as the LS1 and LS7, but maybe I should change them as well.

Re: 292XFI cam and spring selection

What size valve in the head?

150/400 is where i'd start unless valve is 2.1"+ diameter. A beehive type spring in those specs should be fine

Re: 292XFI cam and spring selection

my valves are 2,02/1.6
I might be asking stupid now but why is the valve size important?

Re: 292XFI cam and spring selection

Size of valve determines mass that the spring has to control. Larger valve head diameter, larger valve stem diameters and even longer length all add up in weight. Light valves can get away with less pressure.
Thats why titanium retainers are made and used in race apps. They are stronger and lighter at the same time.

With those smaller valves you should have no issue with 26055 springs and 292xfi. Now just need to see if those springs will fit inside the spring pockets. Else, pac springs may have a suitable small diameter beehive if you want beehives
