Broken sensor on bottom of engine bLock?

I have a Iroc 305 tpi and inwas under my car when I noticed a broken and torn wire that was missing a harness of some sort. I can't figure out what it connects too because everything broke off and the only thing left is the wire with a weather connection. The connection location is right under the engine dipstick and No it is not the knock sensor my knock sensor is connected. Help guys every mechanic I go to can't figure it out.

Does the wire lead to a connector, that is running through a metal holster?

Yeah I know, But he's saying its not leading to the knock sensor? I'm trying to visualize what else it could be.

Re: Broken sensor on bottom of engine bLock?

To be honest with you I don't even kno if it's a sensor for sure but something was connected to that area if u follow the engine dipstick allthe way down and the way it curves you will see the connection. What ever is in that area that's what it is but it's not the knock sensor.

Positive its not leading to the starter?

Or the power wire leading to your ecu?

Re: Broken sensor on bottom of engine bLock?

The connectors on the Knock Sensor and Cooling Fan Switch wires are physically idential, just the color is different. Fan Switch is up higher, though- in the pass. side cylinder head between the two rear saprk plugs.

The Fan Switch plug and connector are amongst the most commonly mutilated electrical connectors you find on 3rd gen F-bodies.

From memory, I think the KS wire is black and the Fan Switch wire is white or tan. I recall the colors being the same on the sensor/switch connector and the plug that goes on it (GM giving you a little hint which one goes where). I've even seen them mistakeny interchanged with eachother on occasion (including when I did it once and couldn't figure out why the fan would never kick on!).

Re: Broken sensor on bottom of engine bLock?

It might be tempature switch bcus I had wire connected to the fan automatically to come on when I turned the key bcus it was coming on late and sometimes it wouldn't come on. Can this cause chEck engine light to come on bcus my light is not on?

Re: Broken sensor on bottom of engine bLock?

Disconnect your wire that makes your fan come on. Turn your key on and ground the loose wire to the block and see if your fan comes on. If so, it goes to the temp cooling switch..

Go to the library. Download a scanning app on your iphone. Get the pin out diagram for your model year and scan the page. If you need it for a 1988 Camaro, let me know. I do not know how to upload a photo as it is asking for me to link it.

That is a knock sensor.. You are stating yours is already hooked up... Take a picture of the one you say is hooked up..
