piston rings or valves seals

91 camaro No compression in number 1.(or very low) wont blow your finger out.Does not smoke.runs ok.My question is how do i check to see if its the rings or valves.the 1 plug had burnet oil on it?number 1 is still getting spark after i cleaned it and fired it back up.I heard you can check with paper on the tail pipe or with a vaclum gauge.and help would be greatly appereciated,thank you!!!

Try a few squirts of engine oil thru the spark plug hole and recheck. If the compression comes up, it's most likely rings. If there is no change in compression, it's most like;y the valves.

If it points to the valves, you now need to make sure that valves are opening and closing. Pull the valve cover on that head and check for broken/bent hardware.

Ty i try that.Iam thinking who ever put this motor together was a dumb ***.I have had to replace just about everything on it.It had no gaskets on it.(top end above heads)

I did oil test, says valves , could it be the head gasket,Everthing looks good under the valve cover?It did over heat.......Ty jason

Could be a burnt valve too. Either way, it sounds like the head has to come off.

Took left side head off .1,3,5 small valvess are brown colored.Pistons say 345 std.Is that stock?And head gasket does not look blowen.I will post pic of heads and gasket tomorrow.

The number 1 Exhaust valve was warped.
