Running Vacuum Lines and EGR Solenoid
Ok guys here is the problem, I'm running new vacuum lines in my 88 Iroc 350 TPI and everything was going well until I realized that there is no EGR Solenoid and according to the diagram underneath the hood you need that. My question is:
Is the EGR Solenoid absolutely needed to run the vacuum lines are is there a way around it?
All input will be greatly appreciated, I'm trying to get this issue fixed asap....

You can plug it to stop the vacuum leak for now. But the earlier years of the TPI engine, like yours, the EGR system has a temp sensor screwed into it that gives feedback to the ECM that (hot) exhaust gasses are actually flowing through the EGR valve when it is commaded to open by the ECM. In short, it won't take long for the ECM to figure out the EGR system has been defeated and throw a check engine light.

Re: Running Vacuum Lines and EGR Solenoid
rockauto has them stocked, just ordered one for my 88 GTA, now the temp sensor for the EGR is hard to find, for a resonable price that is.

Re: Running Vacuum Lines and EGR Solenoid
May I ask how does the temp sensor for the egr play apart, because I am currently having issues with my temp gauge just flickering non stop and not actually giving me a temperture reading, could the vacuum line leak and missing egr solenoid have something to do with that? Or is that problem unrelated.... I actually have a current thread started in the general tech about the temp gauge in hopes of solving that problem as well!.... Any input will be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Running Vacuum Lines and EGR Solenoid
The EGR temp sensor is not for the temp of the motor or the gauge. The EGR temp sensor feeds data back to the ECM for when the EGR should be turned on/off, please correct me if im wrong with that explanation.
on the drives side, by plug 3 and 5, is where the temp sensor for the dash plugs into

Ok correct me if im wrong because Im not exactly savvy with all this mechanic stuff, but I was looking under the hood and I think I might have the egr solenoid in place after all.... I took a picture of what Im thinking is the egr solenoid..... Please anybody correct me if im wrong!... All input greatly appreciated.....

Re: Running Vacuum Lines and EGR Solenoid
Same thing happend to me with one of the lines, but I got the impression that the lines are part of the solenoid, are you telling me you can actually disconnect them at some point from the solenoid and order new line set and connect it??
