Optimum oil pressure?
First post here and I just got a question about my oil pressure possibly being too high. Previously it would run at about 30, halfway on the gauge but once I changed it at the 3,000 mile interval, it now hovers at 45-50 at idle, and 60 (maxing out) under acceleration. Is it possible that not all the oil drained out and the entirety of the 5.1 quart jug was too much? I'm a little paranoid about blowing the engine or doing damage to it. What should I do?
FYI engine specs are Engine code: E, 305 TBI
And I know this is not the place for it but I'd like to know where I can buy alumimium louvers (that look like they're one piece) for approx $300 or under

Re: Optimum oil pressure?
The oil level being too high won't increase your oil pressure. It will actually sometimes decrease it. Check the dipstick to see if the oil level is right. Thats what its there for.

Re: Optimum oil pressure?
Well that clears it up a bit for me. But both my transmission and oil dipstick aren't anything I can rely on... They always read higher than the actual level. Sounds like I probably shouldn't worry about it then. Sorry for the trouble

Re: Optimum oil pressure?
How do they both read higher than the actual levels? Are they nonstock dipsticks? I'm confused here...

Me too - how do you know they read higher than they should? Maybe they ARE indicating over full... if not, put in the correct amt of fluid and put a new mark on the dipstick.

Re: Optimum oil pressure?
Typical oil pressure is 10 psi per 1000 rpm when the oil is hot. Anything above 15 psi at idle is fine. Pressure should never have to go over 70-80 psi. When oil is cold, pressure will always be higher.
