Part fell off - anyone know what it is?

Hey,
I've got a 1991 Pontiac Firebird, 3.1 V6.
Recently in reverse after a little bit of a drive it has been stalling, its also struggling in neutral and i've noticed its now struggling when coming to a slow down in any of the 'gears'.
Just pulled it onto my drive and i noticed a part on the drive.
The part is:

Anyone have any ideas can you let me know?
Thanks,

Hard to tell, but it looks like a sway bar end link, or what is left of it.

yeah, maybe, i just want to drive the thing now lol. first it was the battery, then excessive leaking, now stalling and a broken sway bar!
Sway bars cant like make things shudder and cause stalling though can they?

Unless when it broke the part left on the car flew up and hit something.

Re: Part fell off - anyone know what it is?

It's definitely a piece of stab link, and although it has no affect on your stalling, it could affect your safety if you attempt an evasive maneuver without it. it's a cheap part, and easy to change. Do both of them at the same time.

As far as your stalling goes, there are 100 possibilites that could cause your symptoms. You might get lucky if someone guesses right. But tracking down the real problem takes time, which you might not have since you "just want to drive the thing".

For the stalling you could try checking for a vacuum leak, or even check the air filter/s to see if it/they need replacing.

Did you disconnect the battery recently? If so, you may have to do an idle relearn procedure. Same thing happened on my 91'

Re: Part fell off - anyone know what it is?

Hey,
Good news, we've discovered the part's off a Citroen.
Thanks again for all the input.
Bad news its missfireing(only when the engine has warmed up) and there's a zzzt coming from behind the engine occasionally, not sure if thats linked to the missfire.
My mechanic seems to think its possibly electrical.
Anyone know anything that this is normally?
Also i'm looking at pulling the error codes out according to:
https://www.thirdgen.org/service-eng...ht-error-codes

My question is: this is a code '12' diagnostic.
flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause

What about this adds up to '12' and by that extent what on earth's a code 13, 14, 15 etc error? Am i missing an obvious sequence?

Cheers,

Re: Part fell off - anyone know what it is?

What's to get? 1 flash followed by 2 flashes. Means 12. Afaik, code 12 means all's good and the ecm is working normally (actually means the distrubutor pulse is missing, as it should be with the engine off).

Re: Part fell off - anyone know what it is?

oh lol, it is THAT obvious, i was looking for some magical pattern, like sets of flashes adding up to something.
Thanks : )

Any ideas about common missfireing only when engine is warm?
Cheers,

Re: Part fell off - anyone know what it is?

Heh no worries. Misfiring - the usual suspects - plugs, wires, vac leaks, fuel pressure, ignition module etc etc. Beyond that - did you pull the codes yet?
