Smell Fuel From Rear after shutting off?

So when I turn the engine off after driving the car for a few miles, you smell gas from the rear of the car. The car is a stock 1989 GTA Trans Am. The only real change that was made was disconnecting the carbon canister and plugging off the fuel line that went to it after I installed the SLP Cold Air Intake. Any ideas?

What is plugged???
IDK what all is involved with a CAI, but did you HAVE to plug any of the emissions lines?
Look for bad hoses at the gas tank ( all of them ) & look for ANY leak in the tank & filler neck. Just .02cents

Re: Smell Fuel From Rear after shutting off?

I plugged off the fuel vapor line that goes to the charcol canister. There is a lot of pressure in the tank when I open the fuel cap also. Maybe I need to find a way to vent the system but there is no smog pump on my car so the carbon can is not doing anything without that . Any suggestions?

Does the smell happen when your tank is full? If this is the case, you may have a leak in the tank. I had a tank that could not hold more than a half a tank. The leak was just higher than where I filled it. After you drive it the gas may be sloshing around and leaking out. I suspect as mentioned above it may be a leaky rusty line.

Re: Smell Fuel From Rear after shutting off?

Doesn't matter if the tank is full or down to almost empty. I am wondering about possible vent valve or something. I verified all the fuel lines and filter are tight and not leaking. The tank has a lot of pressure. It's not a huge issue, I am just very picky and want to make sure everything is working properly because I bought this car to use as a daily driver and also to take to local shows and events.

The tank will have some PSI on it during normal operation.
Hook your canister back up, its not hurting anything, will help with the smell and keep psi down in the tank.
I put mine under the front bumper behind the crash support.

Re: Smell Fuel From Rear after shutting off?

Probably happening because you plugged the line that the tank uses to vent. There should have been a little purge valve before the evap can, stick that back on the vent line with some rubber hose, then get another long rubber hose on the opposite side of the purge valve and route it where you want it. Mine comes out right in front of the drivers side front wheel so it's not venting in the engine compartment. Can take a picture if you'd like

Re: Smell Fuel From Rear after shutting off?

Thanks for the advise. I will hook it back up and relocate it and run the output hose outside by the front wheel. Yes, please take some pics so I can get some ideas.
