complete cam kit for 88 trans am gta
I have a 1988 trans am gta.. it is mostly stock, however i have it torn apart and have been doing some minor intake porting and things of that sort. While im in this deep im thinking about a cam kit... the car stock does have a roller cam in it. I did notice that my valve springs are pretty weak and worn out.... I am looking for a complete cam kit i guess is where i am going with this. would i reuse the stock lifters ? if so then maybe i just need a camshaft, valve springs, locks and retainers ? im looking for a street/ strip set up with a decent chopp but not something that is going to be too much for the mostly stock car.( car is a five speed) could i piece a set like this together? am i better with a kit ? cheeeeeeaper the better thanks

You don't want "cheeeeeeeeeep". Might seem like a good idea at the time; has a way of coming back to bite you. Of course nobody likes to spend more than necessary, but putting "cheeeeeeeeep" as a primary concern is a mistake.
I don't know of a "kit" that has what you are looking for, and nothing else besides that; so, probably better off piecing it together.
Look at a Comp "501" cam, 981 springs, and the retainers & keepers to go with it. Use positive seals on the intakes, throw away the oil splash shields. If the exh valves have "rotators", throw those away as well and replace with .090" of shims under the springs.

The cam lets in more air, so that you can also let in more fuel.
Nitrous substitutes for more air and adds more fuel to go with it.
Do the math.
Not sure about "hold" or "stuff going on".
