adding more power

Hey guys, i got a 92 Z28 Camaro with the 350 and was wondering what i could do to add more horsepower. Here's the thing though, its my daily driver and i dont want to really decrese my gas mileage. It is stock, has a K&N air filter on it, and a complete exhaust done on it, i dont know what it has, but i bought it that way, and i seen the recipes and she spend a grand on it. Any ideas would help, and dont call me stupid for having this for a DD or anything, or baggin on me for not wanting to kill my gas, i have a 69 Chevelle, that is my main toy, but i would just like some opinions, all is welcome, thank you.

Re: adding more power

Headers if you don't already have them are an easy boost. Free flow cat and a good flowing muffler would complete the package.

Re: adding more power

It really depends on what you want to do to it and how much you want to sink into it.

Starting with the cheaper options and going up:
*Get rid of unneeded weight
*Underdrive Pulleys
*Headers (as said by hdis2002)
*Make sure it can breathe (intake and exhaust; i.e. high flow muffler & cats, etc)
*Forced Air Induction (turbo or supercharger)

* Do not go Performance chip (https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/afte...orth-40-a.html)

Re: adding more power

Your car should have dual cats sooo you should be good there.
Dyno Dons headers
and a nice cat-back of your choice.

A nice cold air intake and if you want, add a upgraded TPI intake and better heads with 1.6 rockers.
Stay away from a cam swap if you can.
Also a small diameter (9.5) converter with around 25-2800rpm stall will help you if you do a lot of in town driving.

Any recomendations of the cat back? And how much would it cost to turbo this car? And if so what would i have to do, and how much gas mileage would i lose?

Re: adding more power

It depends on what you wish to do and how much you wish to do/spend. I, personally, am a fan of axle back (or rear mounted) turbos. This is where, instead of mounting the turbo under the hood of the car, the turbo is mounted aft of the rear differential. I spent approx $200 for my T3/T4 hybrid turbo, $80 for my waste gate, $45 for my blow off valve, the exhaust/return air tube was free from work, and about $200 for my intercooler. All and all, if you purchase everything, you should be under $1000 easy IMO. IIRC I'm getting around 15-17 mpg with my 1991 turbo'd LT1; you will have to get the prom reprogrammed for turbo use (approx $75-85 from Sinister Performance).

As for cat back, I just pieced it together myself from Summit Racing (since they're only about 45 min away); I picked up SLP's high flow cats, a pair of flowmaster 40s, summit's universal rod exhaust kit and their x pipe.

Not exactly sure what mpg you will lose or gain since every setup is different, not exactly good at estimating that either without driving it.

Re: adding more power

Ls1 engines are not cheap at all, you might be able to find a Lt1 block for a couple hundred and build it up or an lt1 motor/harness on craigslist for about $1000

Well I will say that if you swap over to an LT1 and get rid of the TPI intake, you won't really be disappointed.

What intake would you recommend? And since the TPI has aluminum heads, could i put those on the LT1?
