What is this noise? (with video)

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

It happens every so often when idling or moving. Fades in and out. Its speed is correlated with RPMs.

Ok i read the youtube description, does the ticking kinda go away/get quieter after warmed up? Its probably either rocker arms tapping or you have a slight exhasut leak near the manifold.

The ticking happens mostly after driving for about 10 minutes, but occasionally just after starting up-as in the video. The sound fades in and ticks for 10-60 seconds then fades out.

Re: What is this noise? (with video)

That is not an exhaust leak. From what I can tell by your video, it seems as though the sound in the speakers on my computer increased as you moved closer to the trans tunnel area. This makes me think it has something to do with something on the flexplate, convertor, starter. If it does it in park then safely jack the front of the car up in the air and secure it with jackstands and rear wheel stops. Crawl under there with the car running and put your hand on the bellhousing and see if you can feel the sound from that area. Do it quickly as the exhaust is going to start getting hot.
With a sound that loud, it shouldnt be to hard to figure out where it is coming from.

Loose bolt on the convertor, loose bolt on flexplate. what has me scratching my head is that you say the sound goes away and comes back. That sound is something rotating in the driveline making contact with something stationary.

Interesting. I'm just a beginner with working on cars but I'm gunna look into what I can do in there.

Re: What is this noise? (with video)

Anyone mind taking a listen at my post, has me stumped.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...-clacking.html

Btw. I put some seafoam in booster line, trickle. Never used it before, I did see a small amount of white smoke at firewall. Much more at tail pipe. I wondered about flywheel as well. As I engage clutch, and give it gas it has a bit of bog/hesitation. Problem went from not present, cold, to present cold, but exaggerated warmer. I plan to pull valve cover on pass side (where greater part of noise is).

Couldn't happen at a worse time, school resuming.
