edelbrock tpi intake weirdness?

I just bought the edelbrock hi flo tpi intake from jegs september 2012.. and.. the intake ports are different on each side.. I don't know if this is a fault or if this is normal? the injector boss' seem to be drilled higher in the port on one side of the intake..

Re: edelbrock tpi intake weirdness?

I haven't seen the Edelbrock intake before, but looking at that I'd say it's hosed up. It looks like the one side slipped when drilled and now is in the gasket surface. I'd call up JEGs and let them know. They should let you swap it out. I'm pretty sure they even pay for return shipping. If they try backing out of the deal provide the picture URLs and have the tech look at it. There is no way I would use that as that's cutting into the gasket mounting surface and you could have issues like air and fuel getting into the oil gallery or leaking outside. Fuel and hot parts do not mix well.

Re: edelbrock tpi intake weirdness?

I don't have a definite answer, but I would be concerned. The 2 respective top pics look to be correct, the bottom ones have the injector hole drilled through part of the intake gasket surface. Looks like a quality control slip up.

Re: edelbrock tpi intake weirdness?

I did notice this picture of a guy porting the stock tpi intake.. it has the notch above the port but the ports on stock seem to have extra meat around the hole where edelbrock doesn't.. so.. the edelbrock with a bit of porting might be able to be saved I dunno?.. I don't know what the edelbrock tpi ports are supposed to look like.. but I know mine are miss matched a fair bit.

I'm not sure, but I have supposedly the correct kit

http://www.jegs.com/i/Fel+Pro/375/MS93035-1/10002/-1

I did check and with the gasket lined up properly it covers maybe 15% of the injector hole on that bad side.

intake gasket says fel-pro 90314-1

from what I can see, you'd have to cut into the gasket to just clear the injector hole..so sealing would have to be a problem. so I dunno, I think that's it. back in the box to get a refund hopefully.

Looks miss drilled, you might try contacting edelbrock directly

Re: edelbrock tpi intake weirdness?

Is another thread about a guy sending back three of these intakes recently due to the same problems and he was plagued with sealing problems.

You may get another one that is in the same condition. There is a known bad batch of intakes that edelbrock has chosen not to recall. That is some American made quality for you. Good luck!

thanks for the info. yeah that is what I fear about getting an exchange manifold, and at this distance with the postage costs, I can't really risk trying more edelbrocks, so I think I will choose to go a different route, either porting out the stock manifold and using as&m runners.. or just going to a miniram or something.

Re: edelbrock tpi intake weirdness?

Maybe look into a FIRST intake base. I've heard they are the best out of the aftermarket TPI intake bases.

Re: edelbrock tpi intake weirdness?

Might have been a better bet to have gotten that somewhere locally, more recourse for a return. Unless importing was cheaper, but that's the risk you run I guess.
