Car wont go at WOT
I just put a new distributor and carb in. I have set my total timing to 35 total and around 12 initial. I dont remember my initial exactly. I have messed with the A/F Ratio and it idles better now and actually i can stomp on the pedal and it will peel out on dirt. On the ROad i go through all 4 gears to soon. at 25 im already in 4th gear. I think im reaching my 35 degrees of timing around 2000 rpm. Do i need a advance kit?
My tranny has full fluid. New wires and plugs. Also my rockers are not set because i do no know hwo to set them. The motor clicks even after cranking when its cold like if the cam is turning when it is off.

EDIT: The clicking is when after i stop cranking it and it is still off. It keeps clicking like if something is moving out of place. I need to n know how to set rockers. I can not do the way of backign up and hearing the ticking because my motor is open header. Any other way?

lets start with the rockers. im guessing they are hydraulic, correct? if so read through this thread.

if you just put a new carb on,...how did you adjust the cable to the transmission?

I don't understand your exact question?
Also, you need to adjust your TV cable properly! If you haven't your transmission WILL kill itself. There's tons of tech on this site for the TV cable.
Setting your rockers.. I'm assuming stock style stamped and a hyd cam? http://www.small-block-chevy.com/cb_6.htm
That's a quick rundown of the way I've done it, but there are literally hundreds of pages on the subject.
Full mechanical timing at 2k RPM is a little quick, but if it doesn't ping it's fine.

Yes hydrolic cam. and stock rockers. I Need an aftermarket bracket for throttle cable and tv cable. . They dont line up perfect to the carb linkage.
Re: Car wont go at WOT
I agree on the timing...all in too soon. I'd try to bring that out to 36-38 deg total, starting at 1200-1500 and all in by 3000.

Use an advance kit:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mr...make/chevrolet
You must install the weights and not just the springs.. use the instructions to get your curve right.
And DON'T DRIVE YOUR CAR if the TV cable is not set up right, you will destroy that 700R4 within 100 miles!!!

Re: Car wont go at WOT
Transmission is already dead or will soon be if you have been doing WOT pulls without the cable set correctly.
