Best intake for my Combo - Vic JR vs AIr gap

ALright, I am sure this has been beaten 100% to death, but almost all combos I have seen in my research are using a much smaller cam and different heads.

Car and Mods:

89` Camaro, roughly 3,100lb RACEWIEGHT (with me)
350 CI sbc with powdered rods and ARP rod bolts
Currently a torker 2 intake, and 650DP holley
Ported LT1 heads, 10.2-1 compression
1-3/4 longtubes and full 3" exhaust
3,000 stall 700r4 and 3:73`s
cam @ .050 is 239/243 .522/.532 on a 108 LSA
Looking to twist it up somewere around 6,300-6,400 rpm

WHat would suite me better? Car is pretty much a toy, and with 3:73`s it will be buzzing decent down the highway anyways, but I will drive it down the interstate etc.

Im thinking the Vic Jr, would suite me well. WHat do you guys think?

Thanks for your time guys, Chris

I don't see why it wouldn't. Victor JR's have a strong following for being a decent intake. That, and they're easy to find used for a great price. I personally went with the Airgap, but that was just my decision. I've actually contemplated moving up to a single plane recently, but we'll see how things go when I get things finished up.

They are very close in performance but think on the street the dual plane would be the way to go.

Re: Best intake for my Combo - Vic JR vs AIr gap

I have a Vic Jr on mine and dont have any complaints. I originally had a Torker II and had to majorly readjust my idle on the carb because of how much slower the air was moving at idle. You can look at the ports and see a big difference. It did loose a good amount of power down low, but DEFINITELY gained more up top.

I have never tried the Air gap, though I wanted too. From what I've read though, the Vic Jr. will probably make more power, but the air gap on a motor like that will make more average power. On a mainly street car, you may be better off with the Air Gap.

Either one is going to blow that Torquer II into the weeds. If it's more a race-oriented setup I'd do the Vic Jr. If it's more for the street, Performer RPM.

Re: Best intake for my Combo - Vic JR vs AIr gap

Alrighty thanks guys! I went ahead and picked up the Jr. Also, my build was originally going to be a stock ci chevy with powdered rods and arp bolts. Took the rotating assembly in to be balanced and found a cracked piston. So now i have a .060 over 350 (362ish) with new hyper pistons. So ill have a few more cubes for that Jr.

I have another question on hp guesses. Ill make a new thread in that section but figured id ask here aswell.

362 ci , ported 96'lt1 heads that have been modified for a gen 1 sbc. 11-1 comp
Vic jr intake and 650 DP carb, 1 - 3/4 stainless longtubes
custom grind crower cam (@.050) 239/243 .522/.532 lsa 108
Solid flat tappet

true dual 3" exhaust, 3,000 stall and 3:73 gears. Think i can get to 340 rwhp?

You should hit well over that mark easily if the heads are ported by someone who did a good job, and you spend some time really getting your carb dialed in.

Heads are ported, polished, bowls blended, port matched by me. Ive done roughly 4 sets so take it for what its worth. Car weighs 3,100lbs with me so im hoping for some low 12's

Re: Best intake for my Combo - Vic JR vs AIr gap

Super vic is as tall as the dual plane. Longer runners than the JR.. JR has the best hood clearance. Moroso makes a killer drop base air cleaner.

4000 stall amd sticky tires might put it in the 11's. Goodluck, sounds like a stout combo!

Re: Best intake for my Combo - Vic JR vs AIr gap

I have run all the intakes mentioned above on many different cars & trucks on the street & track and have always liked the Victor Jr. but the RPM Air Gap intake was a close second. I usually have a pretty high stall converter (3500+) so the off idle to 3500 rpm power wasn't as important. Both are great intakes for your application.

I was just reading an interesting article that showed the RPM Air Gap intake as cast actually out flowed the Victor Jr. all the way up to 6200 RPM.

http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/e...g/viewall.html

After seeing the numbers I will run the RPM Air Gap intake on my next build instead.

Vic Jr sounds like it would work well for you. I'm currently running one on my Nova and it has great street manners.
