I want to upgrade the heads in my 87 GTA and need to confirm the engine. I am new to this so will need a bit of details. I would like to know how to confirm the engine year and details so I can match the heads. How can I find the year whether it is 87 or older. I have found the engine number: 10054727. The intake number is 10066015, is that a stock intake?

 

That block is a 1-piece RMS 350. About all you need to know is that it's a 350 if you're upgrading the heads.

If you want to know what heads to get to match your intake, that's a little different story. I don't have intake casting number data at my fingertips, but if your current heads are cast iron and center bolt valve cover, then it's a safe bet they have the '87-up intake mount bolt pattern.

 

Id go with 64cc heads. That engine contains semi dish pistons from the factory so you dont want big cc heads or you will have very low compression.

 

Thanks tzim, I have headers on it already and 305 heads according to the numbers on them. I dont know about any other performance internal. It has aftermarket pulleys and an MSD coil.
I have a couple of heads I have been looking at, would you guys help to determine if it works. I plan to upgrade the cam also.

Will these heads give me about 400 hp with a cam change?

 

Looks like a nice choice to me! Im making 420hp but im running a cast iron head. Depending on what your wanting as far as a cam goes depends on alot of things! Is yours carbed or fuel injected?

 

The one in my profile: TPI, 350 with 305 heads.

 

I know alot of people that seem to like the lt4 hot cam setup. Ive tried it but i had the305 58cc heads at the time and it absolutely killed it. performance sucked with those heads and a bigger cam. I gave up on it and carbed mine. Spent alot of money but itll flat fly like a bird now.

 

where do I get info for the LT4 hot cam?

 

You can pretty much just google it for the 82-92 camaro or firebirds with a tuned port motor.

 

Not with a factory TPI.
