Re: HP estimate please!!!!!

Very similar build to one of my 1st Vortec engines. It also parallels several magazine builds where they tout 400 hp at the crankshaft. Keep in mind that's with no accessories (alternator, power steering) an electric water pump and headers that are designed for the dyno. Your headers and accompanying y-pipe and exhaust will limit some of your potential.
Realistically, you should be able to make a little more than 1 hp/cubic inch out of those heads and cam provided your compression is up to par with your cam timing.

Re: HP estimate please!!!!!

I was going to say 350 hp, but then I realized you're trying to push it through a single 2.5" exhaust past the Y. 325 at most (crank hp).
What's your CR?
deck clearance?
head gasket thickness?

I don't mean to hijack, but what size exhaust should he have? 3" i'm guessing? Is the 2.5 y pipe choking it down too? Budget builder is this engine in the car yet? I'm curious too see the hood clearance (if any) with the RPM intake. I'm doing almost an exact build too. Just .30 over with a hotcam and 1.6RR's

Re: HP estimate please!!!!!

As u can see my hood has a little bit of a scoop on it so I don't have any problems with clearance with the 10in breather

As an example, my Vortec headed 350 with an Edelbrock short header and y-pipe into a 3" cat back system went mid 13.7's at about 100 mph.
Depending on how you reverse calculate those numbers that's something like 290 hp to the rear wheels or 350 flywheel horsepower.
The 2.5" exhaust ( and possibly are more restrictive y-pipe as some of them are terrible) would probably yield a smaller hp number.
A move to 1.6 ratio rockers yielded about 2/10's and a full long tube header into a 2.5" x 3" custom y-pipe resulted in another 2/10s. (Remember this wasn't same day, same track results but you get the idea.)

Re: HP estimate please!!!!!

a little less than 20% loss from flywheel to wheels ok thanx! oh and yeah the only thing i dont like is the cowl opening is trully open and it directly feeds my breather and i do mean directly in front of it. when I take it to the body guy i was going to ask them to put a bullet hole or honeycomb type material in front to protect the breather. What do you guys think?
