timing help
So I was working on my 91rs with a transplanted 350tpi. and guess what I guy who was helping pulled all the plug wire of the dizzy, I have them where they should go I think but still cant get it to time. The two connectors on the dizzy are facing the brake booster and the rotor is facing the #1 cylinder.
what am I doing wrong.

Re: timing help
blue smoke may mean worn valve guides or valve seals. whitish smoke is sometimes normal but could be coolant burning from an intake or head gasket. If it only smokes on startup and its definately blue not black i would guess its just the valve seals or guides worn. If it is black i would check fuel pressure and verify no injectors are leaking which seems to be comon on the tpi's.

Re: timing help
I would start with a fuel pressure test and make sure it holds for at least 20 min with key off, and then I would also hook up a vacuum guage and make sure you have a good steady needle. That would eliminate any mechanical problems.

Re: timing help
will do the fuel pressure test tomorrow but I don't have a vacuum gauge. and to be truthful this engine was a transplant so I don't even know if the vacuum is run right.
And I don't have enough knowledge to know. Im so lost on the whole fuel injection.

Re: timing help
you can look up normal vacuum readings and there is plenty of videos showing people checking for normal engine vacuum online. its one of the first and best steps to diagnosing an engine or drivability concern. a guage is cheap or can be rented from a parts store.
fuel pressure specs are around 36psi idle then with the fuel pressure regulator vacuum source disconnected it should be high around 45 or 50psi. then with the engine off you checkk to see if it can hold pressure. if it doesnt its either the regulator or injectors leaking down. try again and pinch the return line to verify the regulator is ok just make sure you try this several times to make sure its not bleeding past your pinch off pliers. also make sure your coolant temp sensor that is the input for the computer on front of the intake manifold not the fan switch one on the head is reading correctly. I would double check the color of smoke and make sure it is in fact blue. worn guides would make the vacuum guage flutter quickly.

Re: timing help
fuel pressure drops off when car shuts off. and I mean fast. strong vacuum. so would leaking injectors cause to much fuel being used.???
