Thinking Pertronix?

I want to relate to you what I have went through with Pertronix products. I bought their Flame Thrower distributor & coil brand new. Before I could get the normal timing & other adjustments made on my engine it started shaking & died. It would not start again, no spark. I replaced the ignition module with another new Pertronix and yesterday took the car on a short trip to see how everything was working. I traveled right at 300 miles with no problems until I, luckily, got back in town. The car died while sitting idling at a stoplight. To make a long story short it was another ignition module. As I type this the Pertronix coil is sitting on my workbench awaiting the garbage can while the distributor is enroute to where I bought it for a full refund. I have ordered what I should have ordered in the first place, Delco. So, if you are considering any ignition changes you may want to remember what I have posted here and buy accordingly.

Re: Thinking Pertronix?

I got rid of all Pertronix junk and put GM parts back in and have had zero issues since. Shortly after I posted that thread I had two lobes go flat so I bought a crate engine which is much stronger than the original engine and when I finished getting it installed I dropped the distributor in set it at what I felt was a good starting point, hit the key and the thing fired up. I can guarantee that if I ever decide I need a hotter ignition, ( and I doubt that) you can rest assured it will not be Pertronix. Many guys think the stock ignition is holding them back and they need aftermarket, I do not agree with this at all.

Re: Thinking Pertronix?

It was the original block I had built into a 383. The engine always ran great but once the cam went flat I got to taking a serious look at my combination. I had stock 128 aluminum heads, a scat cast crank, stock rods and Speed Pro hypereutectic pistons, and a flat tappet cam. I really wanted better heads and a roller cam and in order for me to put it together myself the way I wanted it it was going to be a lot of green. I started looking at crate engines and found ATK performance engines and their cost for a 383 done the way I wanted it was a no-brainer.

Here you go, http://high-performance-engines.com/...uct_Code=HP36M
They adjusted the price because I could not use the intake or balancer in my Vette. I've had it done since before Christmas but haven't had a decent enough day to drive it but if it runs like it sounds I will be extremely happy. The guy you want to talk to is Matt if he is there when/if you call. There is another guy I dealt with who is equally as good as Matt but I can't remember his name right now. If the link above does not work by clicking on it just copy & paste it in your browser.
