What starter to buy?

I have a tpi 350 with a 700r4 automatic transmission. Will a T56 lt1 starter work? Or do I need something else? If that does not work, what do you all suggest that is the best price?

Re: What starter to buy?

Save yourself headaches and problems and buy the complete
NEW factory starter!

Search for problem posts here from folks that buy those hi-power
or mini aftermarket starters. Plenty of mesh, wrong tooth count,
worn flywheel posts......................

Re: What starter to buy?

I like to use a 1993 lt1 starter for any 153 tooth build I do. It's smaller, higher torque, a direct bolt on, and if you get one from the local parts store, you can get a good warrenty.

They seem yo be less prone to needing shimmed, but always check first !

For 168 tooth deals, I use a 1996 chevy truck starter.

Would this work for a 700r4?

Re: What starter to buy?

Yes, it most likely would; the tooth count on the flywheel/flex plate matters more than the transmission type. I use one of the summit mini-high torque starters, and it has been working very well with a huge plus of being easy to install compared to the chevy truck starter I had in there. No problems yet, even with an older battery and a relatively new zz4 with 10:1 compression.
