Am I missing somthing? pics included**

I bought this car as a project and the shifter **** never really moved. Unless it was from drive to neutral. It doesn't really have any resistance when it's pressed. Or move to any other position.

Am I missing something?

There is supposed to be a nylon rod in the shifter stem.

Is there a part number or something for it? Or can it only be found at a junkyard?

It's not worth tracking down, they seem to break far too often. All you need is something to connect to the shifter button and to engage the shifting mechanism below, easy to make with a small metal rod from the hardware store.

That's good info. Thanks
Does anyone know the length it should be?

jam a philips screwdriver in there and use that as your new handle.. take it out when you park the car- instant free theft deterrent..

Car is getting a new water pump right now. But once it is back I will give measurements and pics as there is more to it than just cutting. The button has a small set of clips to lock into the rod and you have to grind down part of the sides and then drill some dips for the clips to lock into. Its hard to say the exact height you need as different shifters will seat the **** at different heights. one **** I have sits half an inch higher than another and both are stock styles. If you start with say a 10" rod and alter one end to hold the button and just slightly alter the length as you see fit, everyone likes it a little different.

Please don't use a screw driver shifter haha, it just adds to the whole all thirdgen owners are rednecks.

Best theft protection with the shifter is leaving the c clip off the shifter and it will pull out when needed.

Re: Am I missing somthing? pics included**

0sorry about the delay, got a bit sidetracked with some repairs.
my metal rod is roughly 6 1/4" long and 3/8"-1/4" wide, I wanted my button to be flush with the **** so I made it a little shorter. I can't say it will be the same for you as I have the rounded **** that looks like an upside down tear drop and you have the boxed one. The pics show the length, width, and the dips I made for the little bumps on the button (which I am also not sure if you have on yours), the slight flattening of the rod to make the clips fit, and the hard to see, but still there, bumps on the button.
