I had a similar problem when i first bough my car and i still had the 2.8 When it was cold, it would hesitate bad under acceleration then backfire out the intake. Turned out it was a lean condition because the injectors were clogged. If you find out this is your issue, i have the low mileage replacement set i bought that i can sell you.

The same way anyone burns rubber revving engine and dropping clutch. I will definetly check the injectors next is there a easy way to clean them instead of replacing them

not that I know of. You can send them off to be cleaned, but usually it's better to just get new ones

That takes a flow test... and guess who does that? The same people that rebuild them or sell new ones

I've never heard of adding propane, but you put seafoam, SLOWLY, through the brake booster

Seafoam cleans carbon. I have no idea what propane does.

Re: help 88 2.8L engine horrible lag issue
Check your fuel pressure before condemning the injectors. Should be 37-47 PSI.
And pull the spark plugs. The color on the business ends of the plugs will tell how the engine is running.
Propane is basically added fuel. After all, people cook and heat their homes and campsites with it...
Also, yes, a 2.8 can burn rubber. And chirp second.

Also remove the vacuum line from the throttle body that is connected to the fuel pressure regulator with the fuel pump running. No fuel should come out. If it does, the pressure regulator is leaking and the diaphragm needs to be replaced.
Re: help 88 2.8L engine horrible lag issue
Wasnt able to get fuel pressure tested because fuel injectors started acting up mechanic said I only had Power to 3 of them then when he replaced the fuse for them they started running rough so rough in fact car wouldnt idle anymore he said fuel injector wires were plugged in wrong could that be possible since it was running Fine before the lag issue started
