No crank, unless i disconnect/reconnect battery
I am the owner of a 1989 Iroc z with a 5.7 TPI and 700R4. I have had a starting problem for the past 4 years. Now, i got it to start, but if i dont disconnect and reconnect the battery, i get voltage through past the gear selector, the temp guage pegs out high, but i dont get anything from the starter itself. No solenoid engagement, no spinning, no clicking. i have replaced the starter power wire, tested the battery and the starter off of the car. I built a resistor and bypassed the key under the dash. It appears to me that there is something wrong with the computer, although since the car has OBD1 i have only been able to use the CES light diagnose and dont have any codes coming through. I will be glad to give any info that you all need, and am begging for some help. This website has been invaluable to me working on Anne, and I hope to get a little more help now. Thank you in advance.

sounds stupid but have you tried cleaning the battery?? making sure the surfaces are free of grease and dirt so nothing connects the terminals. clean the terminals as well as the terminal connectors.
im thinking a short somewhere is the culprit. but im no mechanic

I have removed, cleaned, and sealed the battery and the connection points.
