92rs 3.1 now 355 vortec edel. 1411carb just finished transplant went fire up just turned over. Verified fuel pressure 2psi so I jumpedgrey wire and adjusted to 6psi looked and made sure fuel dropped in bowl with tap of throttle. Made sure had 12v to hei dizzy and took off coil cover and verified 12v into coil. Checked for excessive ground between ground on batt and coil it was good. Got fedup and made sure I was on #1 moved dizzy around to where advance cylinder was about a 45segree angle from front of car. None of that worked double checked firng order verified spark was coming from no 1. None of that worked so sparyed it staring fluid and voila fired up and ran like a champ for about 5sec. Then it quit didn't even skip. The whole time I'm reading fuel pressur to the gauage which mine is setup after the reg and b4 the inline fuel fiter right b4 the carb. WHAt AM I MISSING? Oh I did notice that the fuel pressure drops a little ehen turning the engine over. What am I missing? Is it getting too mush fuel? Pleeze help! Even tried jumping fuel pump with hot wire while turning key will turnover just won't start. My thinks its flooding. possible? When it fire up it ran good. Oh one more thing it fired up one more time no starting fluid after it sat for a couple min. It ran for a second. Then cut off.

 

Pull a spark plug or two. Are they wet?

 

Took all rxcept no. 8 (hard to reach). No. 6 was wet but the others had a little carbon will burn all of them with propane torch. I turned motor over no fuel pupm no dizzy 12v to try something. Now b4 I did any of this I tried sarting the car and turned over pretty fast then I tried pouring a little gas in the carb bby hand and it turned verry slow almost struggling (like vapor lok) then I read the above ques. That's when I tried the above thing by tomorro I will put them bak in and see what happens

 

Bump. Rrally need some help just need some ideas on what to check. I kno itssomething simple but I'm missing it

Mark on balancer at 0 no 1 piston to top rotor button a little past where no1 dizzy position helP!!!!

 

How much advance have you tried giving it? Looks like it's too retarded from the pics.

 

Sounds like timing. Have somebody turn it over while you slowly turn distributor until it fires.

 

Timing!!! Mark lined up with zero I made sure piston is at tdc and seen that rotor button was pointing more at #8 so I rotated the dizzy and voila. Wasn't that far off! But I guess it was enuff. Then it wasn't shutting off with the key but that was b/c the 12v dizzy power supply was straight from the batt. Once hooked up the power from the original (car electonics dizzy wire) it works like a charm. Thx everbody!
