LOL--- watch out for AUTOZONE Ignition Wires
My high mileage IROC is up for SMOG check (CA) soon.... so the other day I put on a fresh set of plugs (as stated by my other post) and decided to replace the wires for the test. Of course NAPA's premiums were out of stock so I took a chance and stuck some new AUTOZONE wires on it with the intention of changing them out in a couple months... Step dad- whose a mechanic stops over to pick up something at my house unrelated and I tell him about my SMOG check plans.. he says let's check the timing so of course I'm like YES PLEASE!!!
As we set TDC #1 at stock timing 6 deg BTDC we noticed that it was "back firing" around 2000 rpm
Step dad pulls off the coil wire to check the quality of the spark and on the connected end by the coil we were astonished to see SPARK arc'ing from behind the plug boot and the wire. We weren't pulling the wire or stretching it.. it was just arc'ing on it's won. As soon as I put on my old wire set's COIL wire all was well and the mystery "backfire" was a thing of the past.
SO CAUTION.. with that AUTOZONE crap! The wires were literally BRAND NEW! And another thing.. I wasn't running a HIGH OUTPUT Module or ignition system so that whole arc'ing crap is BS on a stock ignition

Here's a decent set at a decent price.
I've been told they are rebadged Taylors, and I've been using them for years. Not only that but Summit Racing is one of my favorite places to buy aftermarket parts.

Summit has never charged me tax or shipping on any of my orders but there is a $9.95 handling fee.
That's why its best to order everything you can at one time. Its a one time fee and they have some of the FASTEST shipping I've ever seen.
They even price match including with Rockauto.

Re: LOL--- watch out for AUTOZONE Ignition Wires
Have yall ever ohm'ed out the summit wires? I would be really interested in seeing how many ohms per foot they are.
I run MSD 8.5mm for the low 40-50 ohms per foot.

Re: LOL--- watch out for AUTOZONE Ignition Wires
I have used the Summit wires for maybe ten years, at least 8. I always purchase the set that allows you to cut the wire to length and crimp on the ends. My first set lasted several years, five or so, until one day when I was playing with the timing I noticed I was getting zapped when I touched the distributor! I immediately purchased another new set. Just beware that the rubber around the boots at the distributor may dry out in a few years.
