Anchor Motor Mounts, any good?

I'm rebuilding the front suspension on my 1990 IROC-Z and thought I would go in and replace the motor mounts.

Has anyone used these?

The price was under $10 a piece from Summit but noticing that the ACDelco OE ones are $125 each from RockAuto.

just get the poly motor mount inserts.. they are at least made in the USA and not some Pakistani or Indian sweatshop..

Re: Anchor Motor Mounts, any good?

I bought the anchor mounts and they are identical to the stock ones.

Re: Anchor Motor Mounts, any good?

I used anchor mounts on my 91 and my 87 C10. They fit like factory replacements and work really well. I do recommend swapping them out while the springs are out though. It makes it much easier.

Re: Anchor Motor Mounts, any good?

I swapped both of my motor mounts in 2.5 hours with just the motor out, I didn't think it was as hard as people make it seem in forums. Stick an open end wrench through the hole in the frame rail by the spring to hold the top two nuts while you turn the bolt with a ratchet and use a socket on the bottom bolt going in where the lower control arm mounts to the frame. To reinstall I used grease to stick the washers to the nuts then sat the nut in the open end of the wrench and turned the bolt by hand to thread it back on. About 20 minutes was spent trying to fish washers out of the frame after removing the nut, one is still in there because I just gave up and used a different washer.

Re: Anchor Motor Mounts, any good?

Yeah they are just stock mounts. Mine were made in China. They are a bit difficult to do with the motor in the car not to mention the stress of working under a motor hanging from a lift so do it while it's easier. Yes, the nuts on the bottom side are tricky but if you are a mechanic type it's not a problem.

I previously used poly mounts and noticed they broke away from the bracket. Yeah they're still trapped but let the mount "move" around in the box. Maybe it's because I'm running a stroker lol.

Anyway, beside the fact mine were breaking down I went with stock replacements because I noticed the urethane mounts jacked the motor up a quarter of an inch or so. Not usually a problem but my throttle body hits my hood so it was a problem for me. Also, I noticed more engine vibration being transmitted to the interior with the polys. The rubber mounts are much better for my combo as long as they hold up a while.

Re: Anchor Motor Mounts, any good?

You save a lot of time and trouble by just pulling the spring out. Disconnect the end link for the sway bar, pop the ball joint, remove the spring and it's MUCH easier.

Just hope you're good at getting the spring back in place.

I am a huge proponent of the crowbar method. I think spring compressors are insanely dangerous for our situation, but people are scared of compressing them by hand with a lever, so whatever.

With the springs out of the way, they're still annoying, but you CAN get to them.
