I cracked a head on my 1987 Iroc L89 350. I found a L89 350 out of a 1989 can I swap them out? It is a complete engine. Thanks guys!!

 

Yes, a 89 L98 will direct replace a 87 L98 with no further changes.

 

I got the engine today but I don't think it's out of an Iroc wonder if it's worth putting in. Heads read 14102193 and the block reads 024388. It's complete drop in ready.

 

No, that's not an L98. Not with those heads. Those are swirl ports, a truck head. Generally considered boat anchors though some people work with them. If you decide to use them is up to you but I'd expect a hp loss. Maybe no torque loss in the lower rpm due to design.

It also may or may not have a roller cam in it. I would NOT use it without the cam your L98 has or better.

 

Bummed, maybe just throw a beefed up carbureted engine in?

 

Nah, don't do that. Find a good motor or rebuild the original. Sell the one you got. Find another and check casting numbers first.

 

Well now wait a min, How bad is the cracked head? A shop look at it yet?
