Been wondering this for a long time... Can u put a gen 1 balancer/pulley on a gen2, or use gen2 Accessories on a gen 1 to make the SBC nice and short.
Or if running an electric water pump. Figured this would help someone.
Well the answer is yes. Tried a few crank pulleys like one off an c4 tpi better which is shortest SBC application. But that doesn't work.
March makes a serpentine crank pulley for a short water pump that originally had v belts. Used this and a balancer for an 88 350 Iroc on a 93 lt1 trans am. Had to use one small shim under the pulley. Just set an lt1 balancer/pulley on a table and compare the ribs on the SBC balancer and pulley til they match. Here are the parts:

It should also be noted the factory pass valve cover has a relief for the alternator made into it, so u may have to modify a valve cover if on a sbc

Should be noted this won't fit on an lt1 with the optispark in place. I deleted mine and the water pump and used a regular SBC timing cover to delete the holes. Lt1 and SBC use same timing cover bolt pattern, just the lt1 goes a little higher. had to weld a bit of sheet metal on top and drill holes for the 3 top lt1 timing cover bolts

i'm not 100% sure, but you could have probably just used a timing cover from a newer 4.3 V6 with the balance shaft and saved some fabrication... or even just get some core plugs to plug the holes in the LT1 cover..

It was free and easy. And no the 4.3s are not the same.
Also I
hate when most people put a rear dist on the back of an lt1 intake it looks crappy where the egr stuff was. I just machined off the whole back and welded in a piece of angle. Much cleaner.
