Hey all I just bought this 1991 camaro and did an oil change on it.
Seems this party directly above my oil filter is leaking quite a bit of oil.
Looks like some kind of sensor?
What is it called so I can replace it and try to stop this oil leak?
Its the silver thing above the filter. You can see a drop of oil dripping from it.<br/>What is this thing called?
oil pressure sender switch right? Im looking at it on rock auto and it appears to be the same switch.
Right now im wondering if this is the part that is leaking or maybe something above it. Anyone ever seen these leak straight through to the electrical connection?

Yeah, it's the oil pressure sender AND it acts as a secondary path for power to be fed to the electric fuel pump in the gas tank (that's why it's got 3 wires instead of just one).
Don't recall seeing one leaking straight through before, but it's possible, I suppose. Before you replace it make sure that oil isn't dripping onto it from above somewhere, though.
If your oil pressure gague seems to be giving "funny" readings (typically too low) it's about 80% probability that this sensor is the culprit. They're notorious for going bad.
I also had a different Firebird have a small leak from the very back of the intake manifold from a cracked gasket that would run down (nearly unnoticeable) along the back of the block and then drip off the sensor.
I advise checking closely with an inspection mirror above the sensor and see if it looks good. If its dry, just change the sensor. It is pretty easy to swap out and I don't think it was expensive at all.
you can read my post on un-install/re-install of that very OPSU switch...should have all the info you need...do a search for OPSU install..or find my post...zero13
Those things seem to be a very common oil leak, I have a couple and they all leak between the connector pinouts, I just replace them but they never seem to last very long.
