SBC Gen 1 Timing Cover Seal Alternative
At one time I had replacement timing cover seal for my small block that placed the lip of the seal slightly forward of where the standard seal sits.
I've long since lost the part number and can't find it with an internet search. Maybe someone here knows what I'm looking for.
The standard seal I have is by National. P/N K3517S.
The one I'm looking for is designed so that the seal lip rides in a slightly different spot on the balancer where, in some cases, a groove has worn enough to cause a leak. Cheap insurance just in case.

Seems like it was a Mr G one.
But, just putting a Speedy-Sleeve on the damper, takes care of the wear, anyway. Rather than just "insurance", an actual repair.

Re: SBC Gen 1 Timing Cover Seal Alternative
True enough.
I can't say I'm in need of a repair inasmuch as I'm putting in a new seal anyway. My thinking is that I can extend the usable life of the balancer with the offset seal. That said, I suppose the same could be said for the repair sleeve. (Pressed on, correct?)
As usual, reasonable advice.
I'll look into the Mr Gasket catalogue just the same. It's in my brain now...

I'm pretty sure Speedisleeve's are just a hammer on deal with the install cup.

I think I actually installed one on my first hotrod 307 SBC way back. (I mean way back).
There was some kind of installation tool. It seems to be the same deal decades later too.

Searching the interweb for the last hour. Still can't find the seal I've described. I know it exists because I had one. Now it's like an earworm....

The description reads, "lip relocator type".

How about a Victor-Reinz P/N 65022 ?

I believe Mr. Paulo, that is the one. At 1/2" wide as compared to the standard 3/8" it is indeed the "lip relocator type".
Thanks.

That's what I like about this place. It can be a great resource. Like now.
Thanks again.
