So I was ganna change out the rear main seal on my motor today. When I was lifting up the motor with a 2x4 and heard a shatter like glass. Well I couldnt take off the oil pan cuz if the skid plate on my bellhousing and couldnt look in the oil pan. My bro has my cherry picker but im ganna get it back next weekend but any ideas or techniques as to what it might be? Motor wont turn over all the way cuz its hitting something. Or could it be the trans? Thanks fellas

 

You were intending to remove the oil pan with the engine in the car?

You were lifting the front of the engine, tilting the engine upwards?

I think you broke the distributor cap.

 

Oops, I failed to mention I have the dizzy off haha sorry. Reason why I turned the motor over was to get TDC. Giod thing I did or id be deeper in the hole.

 

When you lifted the engine did the fan run into the shroud and break it?

 

I gatta get better at this. I have electric fans. I disconnected the headers, no ac. Spark plugs are out. My trans is a muncie. I had the trans in neutral when lifting. I lifted up the rear end after the noise and spin the trans in neutral at the drive shaft. But when I put it in gear and spin the rear tires the drive shaft doesnt move. Is that normal?

Yeah my thoughts exactly. Oh well. Im in the middle of moving out of this house. Ganna put the car in storage and yank out the motor when I can. Intake keeps leaking too. Im kind of excited about all this actually hah!

 

Crushed the pickup and or oil pump shaft into the crank

 

I finally took off the oil pan this morning and the oul pump was fine. Hammerd on the oil pan to get it straight. Engine rotates perfectly... Hmm... Guess I'll know when I fire it up tomorrow haha.
