Accidentally pulled this out of wherever it came from while taking the dipstick out of the 700R4 I replaced today. It looks like air tube or vac line as it is hollow but I cannot figure out where it originated from.
That's the vacuum line for the cruise control and HVAC controls (note the the check valve). There should be a connection to another rubber vacuum hose someplace near the master cylinder.
I think that's exactly right: the tubular thing next to the wiper motor is the vacuum reservoir. Should have a hose nipple down in that hole in the end.

HA genius name! And genius person... thank you found it, I appreciate the help.

Whole bunch o 305 geniuses Tank you very much I feel as if I should have known that but my vision was 20/20 on the transmission.

speaking of vacuum reservoirs, do you have any idea what a suitable replacement may be for that. It looks like there is a newer model "cannonball" that sits under the canister, but I can not find an OEM replacement for the one that sits at the top of the firewall, other than used on eBay and such. I'm hesitant to buy a USED one, as mine has collapsed from heat and stress, as well as being 34 years old (1983 model)!
