Vortec Heads and LS6 valve springs - whos done it.

So ive been looking into blower cams and the stock vortec valves max out at 470" of lift because of the seat - Im looking to see whos running comp 787 retainers and LS6 valve springs - Also what kind of cam's are you running?
Was thinking about running a .503/.520 lift cam, but according to my math that puts me in spring bind territory.

Yep. But its been a few years. I wrote it all here. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...ortec-lt4.html

Might not be the best answer by now, but its still working good for me.

I have run them on several sets and not run into that issue.

LT4HOTcam, 1.5 rockers... Same as NAF, and I'm sure I used 3rdgenmaro's thread as a guide...

Re: Vortec Heads and LS6 valve springs - whos done it.

Alex's doesnt have those kits anymore. I called them the other day - They want 175 for the current behive kit they have, plus seals, and retainers, and yes those were the springs i were looking at. Also if my math is correct, at 1.700"-.520 lift puts me at 1.18" and thats before retainer to seal clearance and spring bind is at 1.220

I had my eye on the LT4 hot cam, but im running a GM 350 HO (Flat tappet cam) and a little extra duration/exhaust lift could do me good with the blower - every thing i want except the added exhaust duration/lift

Trying to keep my power band lower, but everything lower 2-5800 range is down around the .480 lift, area and im running a .435/.460 cam already so its kind of pointless in my opinion to spend 5-600 hundred bucks for .020" more lift, so im thinking retrofit roller is in my future.Selection seems limited on the retro fit rollers for blower cars looking in the .490-515 range.

I was looking at this kid, dispite it being slightly higher power band than im looking for. My only question is, is it a huge pain in the *** down low to drive.
Im looking for a good drivability blower cam with decent lift (and a winning lottery ticket while im at it) - Starting to think i should have comp custom grind me a duplicate of the LT4 hot cam and add some duration? Im in quite the pickle. Looks like im spending 1100-1300 for a cam swap.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Not sure if these would be of interest. Looks like they would fit your build maybe not as good as beehive.

I'm not running factory ls6 but running comp beehives on my vortec heads. Running the Comp 280xfi with 1.5 rockers which is about .550 lift with no problems.

Well, thats alot more lift than i thought they could even handle. Did you machine the seats or just springs, retainers and seals.

Nope just had them tapped for screw in studs. That's why its a good option, you dont have to cut the valve guides. I used the comp retainers and put some new seals.

Stock Vortec seals are an odd diameter. My machinist has a "standard" sized cutter to work with typical sized aftermarket seals... Comp 529 seals.

I used a set of LS3 springs that were given to me, Comp 787 retainers and Felpro seals for Vortec. Running an LT4 Hot Cam on 1.5 rockers.
