Just got my *** kicked by a stock 97 Blazer 4X4 w/ a V6 TWICE
First we raced from a stop. We went on the 3rd beep of his horn and I got the jump but the Blazer just walked right past me and got at least a car length on me before we had to slow down(we were running out of road). I didn't even get out of 2nd gear that time though so I said let's go again on a longer road. So we went and found a longer road to race on and we went from a 40 roll. I got the jump again but he just pulled right past me and put 2 cars on me and kept them utnil I got half way through 3rd and started pulling up. I got up to about his bumper and then had to shut down because the road was coming to an end. I still can't believe it. I knew my car was slow as crap but I didn't think it was THAT slow. Is there anything not so expensive I can do to my car that will allow me to beat him next time? The car is a stock 95k mile 84 Z28 w/ an LG4/A4 and 3.23 gears.

that's just a plain embarassment to f bodies. you deffinitly need to improve before you race him again. both mine and my cousin's LG4 camaro's ran 15.61 and 15.64 with only cat back change, some adjustments to timing and carb, and a 3.08 open rear. if yours is running that slow, you may want to run a compression check on it. a big improvement i've found that's easy is going with a cooler thermostat and moving the timing up. you can find some slightly smaller metering rods for the secondaries to give it a bit more fuel also without alot of money into it or time.
I might have predicted that honestly. Stock vs. stock, the 97 4.3L is a much better performing engine than an LG4. True it's in a heavier vehicle..but still. Time to start modding that thing
Sorry Cody, but all the 4.3/5speed powered s10's I have seen at the track run low 16's. The blazer is probably a high 16, low 17 second car.

Something is wrong somewhere. There is no way you should loose by that much to a car that has 190hp and probably close to a thousand pounds on you. Check compression, timing, vaccum lines, and carb. 95,000 miles shouldn't have killed the LG4...but if it was abused who knows.

Back in 1986 I bought a brand new TA with a TPI. One day while cruising around, I was at a stop light next to a Suburban. The road was a 2 lane that merged into 1. We both hammered it off the line and I could not pass him. I was so embarassed that I vowed to do something about it. The first thing I did was put a NOS kit on it. What a difference! It felt like I had nitrous on the car? Oh yeah I did! Anyhow after becoming like a coke fiend on the NOS, I decided to go with a larger motor.
My suggestion to you is: either put a quick fix on the car like NOS or buy a Chevy crate motor. Crate motors are pretty affordable these days.

lol the 4.3 blazers are slow but I can see him beating you from a 40mph roll because that blazer will downshift into 1st and pull till redline from 40. What condidtion is your engine in? I would run a compression check and then do a tune up. I beat a 99 blazer with my old 86 blazer 4x4 with a new 3.4 GM HO crate engine (that sucked). Prepare to laugh you butt off but when I first got my Z28 it was stock and a geo storm handed me my butt from a dead stop until 60 and I had 3:42 gears.

The '84 LG4 had a grand total of 150 ponies. The exhaust is very restrictive, as is the stock air cleaner. Fix those two things and you'll get back at least to his front tire.
The '84 LG4 also had a fantastic 8.6:1 compression ratio. Although you'd gain a good bit of power going deeper into the engine (cam, heads), it'll be limited from its potential without getting flat top pistons in it. If you go that far, you might as well get the perverbial 350 in there.
I'd be willing to run him, though...
