Need help with edelerbrock 4 carb
Re: Need help with edelerbrock 4 carb
Welcome Aboard!
We'll need a lot more detail than that.
Does it backfire only once, or constantly on acceleration?
What carb? What Engine? What cam? It all makes a difference.
What is idle vacuum? What is base ignition timing?
Does it start well when cold? How about when hot? How about after around 20 minutes of heat soak?
Any idea what was adjusted or "touched?"

Find out what he touched and put it back.
Nothing easily accessible should have had a big effect really only the idle speed and mixture on the outside of the carb. Maybe the ported vs full manifold vac line for the distributor.
Most carbs dont like cold does it still have the choke?

Make sure the choke is open.
Make sure the throttle cams are set to the "out of the box" setting (should be able to google that).

What are the answers to the other questions asked?
The choke light means nothing for you right now. Because someone hacked on an edelbrock carb the car does not have the factory choke. Did you visually inspect the choke plate?

I understand it has choke. . .every carb has a choke. I'm asking if you made sure it was fully open (i.e. the choke isn't engaged).
Cuz my guess would be it's very easy to knock the choke plate and mess stuff up.

I would not be surprised if the choke was missing people love to revive them.
